Don't Let Care in Congregations Funds Go Unused!

Each congregation is eligible to receive $1,020 or $1,250 for 2009 for projects to benefit the congregation. A number of congregations have not yet applied for this money, which is waiting for you! Funds can be used to supplement budgetary items, for improvement projects, repairs, hands-on projects, etc. Congregational Coordinators can apply and report on-line at www.thrivent.com or by calling the Thrivent Financial's Home Office at 1-800-236-3736

Report on Your Join Hands Day Activities!

Join Hands Day is an exciting nationwide opportunity to bring youth and adults together to improve their communities and build meaningful relationships across generations. Morris County NJ congregations were encouraged to be involved in a volunteer activity any day between April 1 and June 30.
Some of the volunteer activities completed this spring were:

Cookie distribution at the Morris County Correctional Facilities
Food to and work at Interfaith Food Pantry
Toiletry Drive for Hoboken Shelter
Easter Basket distribution to Lutheran Home
Dinner for AIDS individuals at Eric Johnson House
Work at Hillside Food Bank
Habitat for Humanity work days
Children's clothing drive for Paterson Daycare
Drive for Randolph Animal Shelter

Over 400 hours were contributed to these activities, benefiting many in our community.  Many thanks to all who participated.

If you have not yet reported on your own Join Hands Day activities, please do so as soon as possible.
It makes a powerful statement to others about the impact of Thrivent Financial and its members!
You can fill out the reporting form on-line at www.lutheransonline.com/morriscountynjchapter or call Peggy Burke at 973-998-0725 (or pburke8248@aol.com)

Chapter Board Members Needed

Our Board currently has several vacancies and we are in desperate need of volunteers to help us out!  Board members have term limits and several of us will have to resign within the next year or two.  We need people to fill current vacancies and to replace us. We welcome anyone who wants to come to a Thrivent meeting to observe how things work and possibly consider joining us!

We meet monthly, sometimes over lunch, sometimes evenings, sometimes via conference call. Meetings are held to keep current on Thrivent projects and initiatives, to track chapter operating funds, to approve and track Care Abounds in Communities projects, and to develop and revise policies and procedures. You will receive lots of help and encouragement as you take on responsibilities!  Please let us know if you are interested or know someone who might be.  (See meeting dates in an article in this newsletter.)

All elected chapter leadership positions are considered “open positions” each year, even though there may be some members who have not completed their four consecutive terms.
