Chapter and National Board Elections To Be Held
An invitation to vote for Morris County Chapter Leaders and Thrivent National Board has been sent to you, along with a ballot for Chapter Leaders. Please exercise your right to vote. The elections will take place in the Lutheran Churches in Morris County. Your Thrivent Congregational Coordinator will choose one of the following dates: November 8, 15 or 22. The date will be announced in your Church bulletin, and your coordinator will be supplied with blank election ballots for Thrivent members to complete on the day. If you are not a member of one the Churches, and would like to vote, please call David Bowles at 908-489-4063 for details on your nearest voting location. Please also note Open Positions on the ballot and add names of those individuals you would like to have serve. This year, we are again conducting the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans National Board of Directors election through the mail. If you are a benefit member, you are eligible to vote and will receive the mailing. The opportunity to elect your Board of Directors is a benefit of your membership in our fraternal benefit society. Watch your mail in October for election materials. Please participate - your vote matters!
Time is Running Out for Care in Conregation Funds Applications!
Congregations are eligible to receive either $1,020 or $1,250 for projects which benefit the congregation. Matching funds are provided toward fund-raising activities or to purchase materials for a hands-on service project or educational event. A number of congregations have not yet applied for these funds. If yours is one of them, please note that the application deadline is December 17. Results must be reported by December 31.
Reports on Care in Communities Funds
Congregations have been busy raising funds or doing service projects benefitting individuals or organizations in their communities. Morris County Thrivent has committed a total of $16,426 to these efforts to date. There have been 62 projects approved, of which 43 have been completed. Remaining funds of $1,618 have not yet been committed. If you have been approved for a project, please report on results as soon as possible. Also, remember that we have funds available for celebration cakes and for mailings.
The Morris County Chapter has submitted an application for matching funds for Thrivent Builds. The proposal is to have Morris County congregations work with Habitat for Humanity to fund and build a house in Dover. Keep your fingers crossed! We will keep you posted.
Changes in Thrivent Programs
Thrivent will be changing some of its programs in 2010. Giving Plus will be ending at the end of 2009. A new program, Thrivent Choice, will take its place. This program will provide more flexibility in where a member can direct his or her charitable contributions. In addition, Care in Congregations will end. We will provide more details of these changes in a future newsletter.
