South Pinellas County Chapter, Fourth Quarter News 2006
Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity
What an adventure this Thrivent Builds project has been. The home is at 1450 12th Street South. After a great deal of planning and waiting the home is well on its way. Many of the congregations in our South Pinellas chapter came out in big and small ways to make this a sucess. Gail Goepfert and Ernie Graetz from Hope Lutheran have kept us informed with the progress on our Chapter WEB site. Ken Rush and all the Congregational Coordinators have inspired and directed the work force. Each week progress has been made for Celia Gibson and her family. Stories about the "Build" have been told in our local St. Petersburg Times and on Bay News 9. A great big hug to all the volunteers who have provided money, time, sweat and tears to this worthwhile project. I thank you, as does Celia Gibson and her family. We need volunteers on Wednesdays and Saturdays in the weeks to come. The house dedication is planned for Saturday December 9th so watch for that announcement. If you want to help us please contact your Congregational Coordinator or Robert Reves our Habitat coordinator at www.phfh.org. 727-536-4755.The Habitat web site tells of current volunteer needs. Again, Thanks to everyone for making this a sucess.

As we approach the end of another year I want to thank all the volunteers that came to us for support of their very worthwhile projects. So far we have funded 34 activities in the community and abroad. With $26,130 dollars for our Care Abounds in Communities® Funding much has been accomplished. The congregations have also taken advantage of their Care in Congregations® dollars to celebrate God's work in the local churches. Our Lutheran schools and camps have benefited through both Care in Regions® and Care Abound in Communities dollars. You have read about our Thrivent Builds project and the opportunity to participate next year in the project in Brazil or the Gulf coast. 13 congregations participated in the Care Abounds in Communities projects. Some congregations partnered with local non-profits like public schools and CASA. Other congregations raised money to send folks to build a church in Guyana, South America: feed orphans in the Ukraine and assist in rural America by helping folks build and repair homes. A group of Girl Scouts and a Boy Scout were able to tap into our funds to carry out a Join Hands Day project and an Eagle Scout project. We are greatful that Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has given so much back to our community. Because of all of you our communities and churches thrive and grow.
South Pinrllas County Member Endorsed for Thrivent National Board
Adrian M. Tocklin, member of Grace Lutheran St. Petersburg has been nominated for the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans National Board of Directors. She has been endorsed for election by the board and is currently serving on the audit committee. We are proud to have Adrian Tocklin represent us and we encourage you vote for our board both locally and nationally.
Helping Out Your Own Congregation
Did you know that Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has a program called Care in Congregations® where funding is provided to Thrivent Financial members to conduct fund-raising and/or hands-on service activities to benefit your congregation or its related Lutheran institutions? In fact, Thrivent Financial members are encouraged to use the funds to help the congregation in its ministry to the community. If you see a need in your congregation that could be helped through this funding, please contact a Thrivent Financial congregational coordinator in your congregation. If you don't know who your three congregational coordinators are, please contact a member of our chapter leadership board as noted in this newsletter, and he/she will help you get in touch with a coordinator.
