West Dodge County Chapter, December 2008 Newsletter
Each member of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is a member of one of nearly 1,400 local groups, called chapters. Chapters provide opportunities for our members to "make a difference" by helping others through volunteer action. You are a member of the West Dodge County Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
Rachel Christian, Records Director and Lois Bennett, Communication Director have fulfilled a four-year term on the board, so we say "thanks so very much" for a job well done, thanks for your time and energy, and good luck. We hope to see you at our events. The communication director position on the West Dodge County Chapter Board remains vacant as of this writing. If you have access to a computer and are interested in being a member of the board, please contact President Bev Grams at 920-928-2537. You are welcome to attend a board meeting and familiarize yourself with the workings of the board. The board meets the second Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at the Thrivent Office in Beaver Dam.
The role as a communications director is to support community and congregational service teams and the chapter as they communicate with the public about activities being done through the Care in Congregations® and Care Abounds in Communities® programs. In addition, the communications director assists the vice president as a legislative contact for the chapter. Welcome back: At the October, 2008 election/banquet meeting, JEANNE LAMERS, was elected to serve again on the board as records director. In 2009, please send all requests to her at: 142 Charlton Street, Beaver Dam, WI 53916.
On Saturday, December 6th, the board assembled and delivered 55 food baskets to families in the West Dodge Chapter who are experiencing difficult times. The recipients were from many of the churches in the West Dodge County area. The Board contacted all Congregational Coordinators for assistance in obtaining the number of food baskets needed in their respective churches. All the recipients were very happy to know that they were remembered at this time of year and so glad to get the much needed items. "A BIG THANK YOU" to Dan, Linda and Jessica Gitzel for purchasing all the items and having everything set up and ready to assemble early on that stormy Saturday morning.
On Saturday, December 20th, each board member as well as the Financial Associates at the Beaver Dam Office of Thrivent, plan on taking a family shopping at Walmart for needed items for their families. These individuals will be able to purchase food, clothes, gifts for family members and toys for the kids. This is a great project that will bring lots of smiles and will be very much appreciated by all participants. Seeing the smiles on the faces of these individuals as well as some tears of joy will make all of us thankful for what we have and what we do, as a chapter. We are happy to be able to do some good for families who are less fortunate.
WHAT IS: CARE ABOUNDS IN COMMUNITIES
Through the Care Abounds in Communities® Chapter Care program, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans provides funding for members participating in community service teams. These teams are formed to conduct fund-raising activities and/or hands-on service activities. Activities can benefit individuals, families, local communities or organizations that are exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, excluding congregations. (This includes charitable, educational and religious organizations, excluding congregations.) Activity requests for funding are directed to the chapter leadership board. 2008 - West Dodge County was allotted $46,515.00 this past year which was used for benefits for at least 7 people with medical needs, benefits for PAVE, Shop With Cops, Life Span Respite, Clothes for Kids, Military mailings, beautification of Fox Lake, church camps, youth/teen projects, etc.
There was some money from Care abounds in Communities that was left over at the end of this year due to projects that did not use all the monies alloted - this money was used to shop for needed items to be distributed by Clothes for Kids of Beaver Dam. These items will benefit many less fortunate children in the West Dodge Chapter area.
WHAT IS: CARE IN CONGREGATIONS
Through the Care in Congregations® Chapter Care program, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans provides funding for Thrivent Financial members to conduct fund-raising activities and/or hands-on service activities to benefit a congregation or its related Lutheran institution(s). Members are encouraged to help the congregation in its ministry to the community. Funding comes directly from Thrivent Financial to the congregational service team's congregation.
THE WEST DODGE COUNTY BOARD WISHES TO EXTEND EVERYONE A HEARTFELT MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A BLESSED 2009 !!
