HOW WE “MADE A DIFFERENCE” IN 2005
The Ozaukee County Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans provided $360,727 in 2005 to Ozaukee County through its various community service programs, congregational programs, and member volunteerism. The Ozaukee County Chapter Leadership Board of Thrivent Financial awarded $45,658.74 to 45 different projects that helped local schools, families, and service agencies in Ozaukee County and the greater Milwaukee area. A sampling of organizations that were benefited includes: St. John’s Academy in Port Washington, Interfaith Caregivers, Portal Industries, and the Saukville Boy Scout Troop 868. The Ozaukee County Chapter Leadership Board has been given $42,340 for community service teams in the county in 2006. We look forward to continuing our work with you to “make a difference” in our community in 2006!
Experience an opportunity to improve our community while involving youth and having fun! The seventh annual JOIN HANDS DAY is almost here - plan your activity for anytime between April 1 and June 30. This national recognition of volunteering sparks friendships among people of all generations as youth and adults come together to plan and conduct activities to improve their communities. We encourage you to participate in this special event, which is sponsored by America’s Fraternal Benefit Societies, including Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. The officially recognized day for JOIN HANDS DAY is May 6th, but activities can be completed throughout April, May, and June. How can you participate in 2006? It's easy. Find a need, form a service team of individuals from six separate Thrivent Financial households, and contact one of our chapter leaders to see how we can help you. We have many resources to help make your activity great, such as:
- A checklist that includes everything you need to know to conduct a successful activity and receive funding from the chapter. - Promotional items to help you recruit volunteers and publicize your activity for optimum attendance. - Funding to purchase T-shirts, refreshments, supplies and more.
You can also check out the materials available to you on the Join Hands Day page in the Volunteer Resources section of the Members/Chapters area on www.thrivent.com.
Our chapter has received $1,000 of "seed money" that can only be used for Join Hands Day projects, so please contact us with your ideas to build bridges of understanding and trust between young people and adults, while helping improve lives and communities. CONTACT US TODAY!!!!
THRIVENT BUILDS HOMES VOLUNTEER RECRUITMENT
Are you ready to express your faith in an exciting new way? Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity needs you. Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity helps individuals achieve greater economic independence through the building of decent, simple, affordable homes. Building these homes is more than just boards and blocks. It's sweat and smiles, borne of hard work and expressions of faith. We are currently seeking Thrivent Builds Congregational Champions and Thrivent Builds Site Volunteers to help make the dream of homeownership a reality for families in our community. Congregational Champions work within the congregation to help coordinate the congregation's efforts in Thrivent Builds Homes projects. This position identifies Thrivent Financial for Lutherans members and others within the congregation to form service teams that will raise funds and provide volunteers to support Thrivent Builds efforts. It is estimated that this role could take three to four hours a week during the months preceding a build. Prayerfully consider this meaningful opportunity to make a vital difference in our local community.
Volunteers are also needed from our county to work on the building sites. 20 volunteers are needed daily during the framing week of May 8-12, 2006. Additionally, there will be 14 work days needing volunteers after the initial build week. There are many ways you can help … and the tasks do not all require you to swing hammers, be an electrician, or be a plumber (but those skilled volunteers are needed too!).
If you are interested in learning more about this great opportunity, contact Neil Traxel at 262-284-5637.

CONGREGATIONAL COORDINATOR GATHERING HELD ON FEBRUARY 21, 2006
Twenty-two Congregational Coordinators joined representatives from the Chapter Board, Regional Office, and Financial Representatives at a get-together on Tuesday, February 21st at Concordia University Wisconsin. Requirements for all three Care Programs were explained, congregational funding allocations for 2006 were shared, and the role of the CC within the congregation was discussed. The get-together also included an opportunity to share Best Practices, a question and answer session, and computer training. Al Bartelt, a CC from St. Matthew's in Port Washington, was gracious enough to share the following thoughts on the evening: "I found the session to be very educational and I learned a lot. I received assistance in how to fill out the forms for the funding. When we broke off into small groups, the ideas from the other churches were really helpful. It worked out well that all three of us from St. Matthew's could attend and learn from others and learn more about our roles as CC's."
