| Ozaukee County Chapter, Fall Update |
Do you have an "inner leader" just waiting for an opportunity? Chapter Board elections are coming soon, and we need YOU. If you have ever thought about all the good you could do putting Thrivent Financial for Lutheran's fraternal dollars to use, please consider running for an elected board position. As a membership organization, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is unique to the financial services world in many ways. Our members not only choose who will represent them on the national board of directors governing the organization as well as choose their local chapter leadership board, they can participate as local leadership themselves. The election process is a very important way for Thrivent Financial for Lutherans to demonstrate two required elements of a fraternal benefit society:
1. An active, viable chapter system that involves many members 2. A representative form of government.
Without this election process, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans would not qualify as a tax-exempt fraternal benefit society and would not be able to provide the benefits to needy individuals, congregations and communities that it does today.
Please consider running for a board position, and exercise your right to vote in Ozaukee County's Chapter's leadership board election. For more information about the positions available, please contact current board President, Michelle Buss at 262-377-0747 or mbuss1@wi.rr.com.
Although it has been more than a year since hurricanes Katrina and Rita struck, approximately 22,000 families are still housed in FEMA trailers. But you can help change that through Thrivent Builds Worldwide Gulf Coast Experience. Thrivent Builds Worldwide brings Thrivent Financial for Lutherans members, and other Lutherans and volunteers, together to build homes with families in need of decent, affordable housing. The Gulf Coast Experience was created to aid in the recovery of Biloxi, Mississippi, which suffered tremendous damage from the hurricanes. You can sign up NOW for a special event Thrivent Builds Worldwide volunteer work trip. You can choose from a variety of one-week volunteer work trips available now through mid-December 2007 (space is limited). If you are interested in leading or participating in a volunteer trip and sharing in the Gulf Coast Experience, visit www.thriventbuilds.com/gulf for more details and registration information. Or contact Lindsay Freise, Volunteer Manager at (228) 314-0011, ext. 311 or via e-mail at tbw@hfhmgc.org.
If you want to put your talents to work closer to home, Milwaukee's Harambee neighborhood build sites can still use your help. One of the 10 homes is now occupied, and the others are at various stages of completion. Please contact Milwaukee's Volunteer Coordinator Carrie Feehan - 414.562.6100 ext 14.
Wow! What a great turnout we had for our fall movie social. Over 100 people enjoyed the hospitality of the Marcus Cinemas in Saukville while munching popcorn, sipping soda and enjoying a fun filled morning at the movies. Thank you to everyone for the tremendous turnout that really made the event special. It really is great for members of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans to all get together to share in fellowship. Many of you who chose to see "Facing the Giants" asked about obtaining a copy of this wonderful film. It can be easily obtained at most retail outlets that sell DVDs, and is easy to find online at your favorite internet shopping sites. Thanks for a great event.
