Ozaukee County Chapter, CONGREGATIONAL COORDINATOR UPDATE
ELECTION INFORMATION

It's that time of year.  Chapter Elections are coming soon.  We are again planning to have the Ozaukee County Chapter of Thrivent elections handled by you, our Congregational Coordinators.  Please start planning now for a successful election event.  Your congregation will be eligible to receive a stipend from the Ozaukee County Chapter if your congregation holds an activity (such as a coffee hour between or after services) to allow a voting opportunity for Thrivent Financial members in your congregation.  The exact window of dates for the elections are not yet decided but they will likely occur around the end of October through the middle of November.  Remember, all votes must be cast in person.  All elected chapter leadership positions are considered “open positions” each year, even though there may be some members who have not completed their four consecutive terms.  Contact Terry Ganyo, Chapter Vice President, at 262-224-7480 to inform him that your congregation intends to participate in the elections.  More information will follow by e-mail and mail.

HOW TO SWITCH YOUR CHAPTER MEMBERSHIP

As the chapter elections approach, we want to clarify that the home office of Thrivent Financial initially assigns chapter membership based on zip code, not the location of the church a member attends.  For instance, a Thrivent member who lives in Washinton County but attends a church in Cedarburg is assigned to one of the two Washington County chapters due to the zip code of their residence.  This has caused some confusion in the past since we conduct our voting events at our churches.  However, it is a simple process to request that the home office switch a member's chapter designation if that member feels more involved and connected to the chapter in which their church is located.

The request to switch chapters must be done by the member directly in one of two ways:  either by calling 1-800-236-3736 or by writing a letter that is signed by the member stating which chapter they would like to be switched to and mailing it to Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, 4321 N Ballard Rd, Appleton, WI  54919.

Please let your fellow church members know, by noting it in your election announcement bulletin paragraph, that they can switch their chapter designation in advance of your election event.  The home office of Thrivent Financial has verified that the request can even occur up to one business day before the member wishes to vote.  It is desired by the home office that the request not happen after the member has already voted for a chapter that they are not yet officially a member of to avoid any potential for a member to vote in two separate chapter election processes.

If you have further questions, please contact your Ozaukee County Chapter President, Michelle Buss, at 262-377-0747 or mbuss1@wi.rr.com.

USING YOUR DOLLARS

Have you used your Care in Congregations dollars for this year?  Congregational Coordinators can easily check the status of your available dollars at the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans website.  Remember, the deadline for submitting activities for approval is December 20.  The holiday season can be a great time to create fund raising or service project opportunities to use up you congregation's funds.  Thrivent Financial wants to help you make a difference in your congregation!

YOUTH DIRECTOR - HELP NEEDED

The young people of today represent our hope for tomorrow.  Thrivent Financial for Lutherans actively supports many youth activities and programs.  Care in Congregations and Care Abounds Communities programs both offer financial assistance to help your congregation's youth programs.  You can help Thrivent Financial help you by providing your Youth Director, or your Youth Committee leader's contact information to our chapter.  That way your congregation will be sure to be current on all the opportunities available to you.  Please take just a moment to send current contact information to your Ozaukee County Chapter Youth Director, Leah Toerpe at leah.toerpe@cuw.edu.  Thanks for your help!

SAVE THE DATE!
Your Ozaukee County Leadership Board truly wants to thank you.  Serving as a Congregational Coordinator provides the real human touch that Thrivent Financial for Lutherans knows is vital for success as a fraternal benefit society.  Please save December 2, 2007 for a thank you dinner held in your honor.  Details will be coming, but please save the date now.  This is an event we look forward to each year; our chance to thank you in person.
