Habitat for Humanity Lutheran Build Gains Ground

In the Spring of 2009 we will break ground on the Habitat for Humanity Lutheran Build project located at North Park Street in Port Washington.  To date we have raised 70% approximately $35, 000 of the $50,000 needed to start the project. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Southeastern Wisconsin Field Office has donated $5,000 for the project. The majority of the funds already raised have come from three of our Lutheran churches: First Immanuel, Cedarburg, Trinity Freistadt, Mequon and St. Paul, Grafton.

Volunteers have stepped forward from these congregations and Concordia University Wisconsin. However, we are still in need of more volunteers and material donations (gifts in kind). If you are able to help in any way or would like more information on the project, please contact John Orth at (414)331-2620.

For questions on Thrivent Financial participation please call Jim Meyer at (262) 375-4150.

2008 Thrivent Activity Highlights

As part of Join Hands Day, the Youth Group at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Grafton organized an event called Operation Senior Prom.  This event was put on for the Senior Citizens of the neighborhood community in Grafton.  The Senior Citizens were able to participate in dance lessons, put their new moves into practice and enjoy an ice cream social with the youth of the congregation.  They also received a momento of a mug marking the first annual Operation Senior Prom.  With over 40 people in attendance and more than 160 volunteer hours, the event was a success.  Both the youth and seniors are looking forward to another Operation Senior Prom in 2009.

Check out Possibility Playground (http://www.possibilityplayground.org)!  This all access playground, for kids of all abilities, has been funded by people and businesses in Ozaukee Community, including your Thrivent Chapter.  As the project reaches completion on September 21, it will be nearly the size of a football field, with surprises around every corner.  Take some time this fall to visit Upper Lake Park in Port Washington and see all the good our community did!

Elections are Around the Corner

It's that time of year again, time to select the 2009 Ozaukee County Chapter Board.  Your congregation will announce when and where voting will take place.  All Thrivent members are encouraged to submit their vote for the leadership team here in Ozaukee County.  Watch your mailbox for the upcoming Election newsletter.
