April! Hopefully and prayerfully, everyone had a blessed Easter and also filed income tax returns on time! We are well into spring by the time you are receiving this newsletter. Our "new" Board is working very well together. We made the transition: we said "so long" to six outgoing members in December and "welcome" to five wonderful new board members in January.
Four of us attended the Chapter Leader Kickoff event held on January 19-20 at Lake Geneva (Jon, Cheryl, Troy and Lynn). We all though it very well put together and the Grand Geneva was awesome! On Friday evening, we enjoyed open bar and social hour, with personal pictures taken. We heard from John Cary, President of MACC Fund. We were presented with our 2006 Care for Others check and third consecutive Chapter of Excellence Award, one of just two Chapters receiving this award! On Saturday, we heard from Jim Johnson of Time of Grace Ministries. We were updated on Thrivent Builds by Chris Stelzer, and learned that Blitz Week (10 new Habitat for Humanity homes) is May 14-18 this year, capped off with the Brewer Game on Sun., May 20. Chris introduced us to two Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity homeowners, who told their moving stories and expressed their thanks for the opportunity to own their own homes. We heard from Jim Fischer and Lynn Stuhr with regard to a new Financial Representative Advisory Process -- which sounds like an excellent way for all of us to receive an assessment of our financial wellness. The event concluded with Round Table Discussions, always a good opportunity for the various Leader Groups to learn as well as share their Chapter's best practices.
A heartfelt thank you to all who attended the Congregational Coordinator training event in Jefferson on February 27th. It was good to have the opportunity to meet and share information. Hopefully the cups and napkins are useful to you and the cash as well! A picture composite of the event has been posted on the home page of our County website, so please take a look!
Sunday, May 20: Southeast Wisconsin (Greater Milwaukee) Region Thrivent Builds Brewer Game. Game time is 1:05 p.m. Brewers vs. Minnesota Twins. Although the deadline for discounted tickets is/was April 20, come on down to the game if possible to see the special events planned for this day!
Please do have a look at the many upcoming events posted on the website. Requests for supplemental funding are coming in strong. There were 17 at the March meeting alone. From Easter breakfasts to rummage sales, from Irish Barn Dance to Ice Cream Socials, from Bike Ride to Cookouts ... please have a look and attend these events whenever possible to support your fellow congregations, schools, other organizations and folks with medical expense needs. If you don't have access to the internet, jot down our website address to take with you when you go to visit family or friends who are online, or stop in your local library. These folks will be glad to show you how to find us on the World Wide Web! Please turn to the website when you need a Care Abounds in Communities Hands On or Service Activity Request Form. Or when you want to visit a neighboring congregation's web site. Or when you need the contact information for one of the Board Members. Or want to read minutes from our monthly chapter meetings. Please encourage the Service Teams from your congregation to submit photos from the events held for uploading to our Jefferson County website. Paper photos can be mailed to Lynn for scanning, or digital pictures may be e-mailed.
