GREETINGS FROM THE JEFFERSON COUNTY BOARD

By the time you receive this newsletter, Back-to-School will be in full swing! "Where did the summer go?" is the question on everyone's mind. Plenty of sunshine and warm weather was indeed enjoyed by all. Our Jefferson County Chapter of Thrivent Financial board members continue to meet monthly, usually on the fourth Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. Unfortunately, our meeting places vary from month to month, so if you are ever interested in joining us, feel free to do so and contact a board member to learn the date and place of meeting.

BREWERS GAME AND COUNTY FAIR!

Twenty-nine persons signed up for the school bus we chartered to take us to Miller Park for the Thrivent Builds Brewer Game vs. the Minnesota Twins on May 20th. All who rode the bus seemed to be very appreciative of the free ride. The game was a good one, with the Brewers giving us a win! Visit Photo Album II on the Jefferson County Chapter website (link below) to see a collage of pictures from this event.

Thank God for the PERFECT WEATHER and so much more at the Jefferson County Fair held in July. Most of the board members got to spend some time in our booth there, talking with you and meeting you, dispensing pretzels and chocolate and bottles of water. Financial reps Lane Albrecht, Jeff Kube and Nick Maurice, as well as Lane's administrative assistant Glinda Gephart and her husband Mark spent some time there, too. Thanks to all who helped out and to all who stopped by to visit!

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNDS ABOUND

Certainly one of the main reasons we meet each month is to review and act upon the many requests for Care Abounds in Communities supplemental funding from the various service teams around the county. In April, we approved supplemental funding for Crossroads House of Watertown, Inc.; Counseling Center of Watertown; Brian and Brenda Schulz Family, Watertown; and Trinity-St. Luke Lutheran School, Watertown. In May, funding was approved for Nieman-Pick Foundation; Tomorrow's Hope, Jefferson; Luther Preparatory School, Watertown; Watertown Recreation & Outreach Center for Youth (ROC); Trinity-St. Luke Lutheran School, Watertown; St. Peter's Lutheran School; Johnson Creek Vacation Bible Camp; and St. John's Lutheran School, Waterloo. In June, Dan & Stacy Otte; Good Shepherd Lutheran School, Watertown; and St. John's Lutheran School, Waterloo, all received approval for supplemental funding. In July, Integrated Counseling Service, Fort Atkinson; Benjamin Roehl Cancer Benefit, Fort Atkinson; and Bethesda Lutheran Home Foundation, Watertown, were funding recipients.

Is someone in your community suffering from health problems and high medical expenses? Do you know a family in financial need who could use help maintaining their home? Is there a school, community park or camp that could benefit from new equipment?

Through the exciting chapter Care program called Care Abounds in Communities®, Thrivent Financial provides funding to members who form community service teams to conduct fund-raising or hands-on service activities to help individuals, families and/or qualified not-for-profit organizations.

So, do you want to help, but don't know how to get started? It's as easy as ABC 1-2-3.

This online tool—located at www.thrivent.com/ABC—is available to help you translate your desire to help into an action plan for making a difference. It provides easy steps to guide you as well as ideas, checklists and tips so you can successfully form a community service team and execute an activity through your Thrivent Financial for Lutherans chapter.

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE AS A CHAPTER LEADER

Did you know that as a member of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, you are a part of one of nearly 1,400 groups, or chapters, of Thrivent Financial members?

The chapter system provides opportunities for members to "make a difference" by helping others through fund-raising or service activities. It also is an integral part of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans' mission and vision because it helps maximize the good that we do for others.

As chapter members, we help fulfill the "caring for others" portion of Thrivent Financial's mission: "Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is a faith-based membership organization called to improve the quality of life of its members, their families, and their communities by providing unparalleled solutions that focus on financial security, wellness, and caring for others."

In addition, we have the opportunity to play an important role in Thrivent Financial's vision: "Our vision is to be the organization that Lutherans, Lutheran congregations and Lutheran institutions seek first when pursuing their financial goals. More than creating financial solutions, we add the unique capability of enabling Lutherans to demonstrate their care and concern for others."

Through use of our chapter Care programs, we are able to "demonstrate care and concern for others."

CONSIDER MAKING A DIFFERENCE AS A JEFFERSON COUNTY CHAPTER LEADER!

All elected chapter leadership positions are considered “open positions” each year, even though there may be some members who have not completed their four consecutive terms.  We'd love to see YOUR name on the upcoming Elections ballot! Contact Duane or Lynn today for more information. Do you know someone who would be great on the board and just needs to be asked? Please share his or her name with us, and we'll be happy to give them a call!
