Who Wants to Help Determine Funding for Those in Need?
WANTED:  A person with a caring heart to determine how best to distribute funds to needy people and nonprofit organizations in our community, or to help your congregation.  For details about the following volunteer opportunities with Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, call Mark Johnson at (801) 451-5763; Arnie Krabbenhoft at (435) 257-0080; or Brigitte Schultz at (801) 782-9150.


CHAPTER LEADER position.  Through its Care Abounds for Communities® program, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans provides funding for members who, through volunteer activities, want to aid people and nonprofit organizations needing help in the community.  In 2005 your Northern UT Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans had $10,610.00 of funds available for this purpose.  The chapter leadership board is responsible reviewing funding requests and deciding on the amount of funds to be provided for each request.  New people are now being sought for chapter leadership positions to help continue the fraternal benefit tradition of helping others.  


REQUIREMENTS for volunteer positions.  A Thrivent Financial member, a desire to help others, and five
hours or more per month for volunteer time.


BENEFITS: A smile on the faces of others you've helped and a good feeling in knowing you've made a difference in someone's life.


Northern UT Chapter of Thrivent Financial Chapter Leader Election
NOVEMBER 6th is the scheduled date for the election of chapter leaders for the Northern UT Chapter of Thrivent Financial.  The next newsletter will list the panel of nominees for the positions on the board.  There is still some openings available, and if you are interested or know someone who may be a candidate please contact one of your current chapter board members.  The amount of time necessary to serve on the chapter board is minimal for the service to your community.


THE ELECTION will be held at the five Lutheran Churches in the Northern UT Chapter area.   The election will be held immediately after your Church Service on Sunday November 6th, and the polls will be open until 1pm.  The Chapter will furnish the refreshments on this Sunday for your fellowship gathering.  Your Congregational Coordinators will be asked to serve as the Poll Workers to gather the ballots and supervise the elections in their respective churches.


WE URGE all Thrivent Financial members to participate in the election to vote for your chapter board members.  Remember, if you have a desire to serve, either as a Chapter Board Member for the Northern UT Chapter of Thrivent Financial, or as a Congregational Coordinator for your church, please contact one of your chapter board members, or your current Congregational Coordinator.


You Can Assist Katrina Survivors
Encourage your members to give to the Individual Member Response. Through this effort, gifts members make to one of four eligible organizations will be supplemented $1 for every $2 given, up to $300 per member (e.g., if a member gives $600 to a relief organization, Thrivent Financial will provide that organization with an additional $300.)
A Thrivent Financial Hurricane Katrina Response form, which can be downloaded from the Hurricane Katrina Response site on thrivent.com, must accompany the member’s gift. Those without Internet access may request a form by calling the Fraternal Service Center at 800-236-3736.


Funds raised and contributed through the Individual Member Response will be directed to four eligible recipients:


Lutheran Disaster Response
ELCA Domestic Disaster Response
LCMS World Relief/Human Care
WELS Committee on Relief
These organizations will distribute the funds using their established processes.




Care Abounds in Communities®
We had $10,600 available for the Northern UT Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.  We have approved or completed enough projects that there is $456 remaining for the balance of this year.  We are planning to have an activity to use this money to assist the Katrina survivors.  We had a successful year in allocating these funds to many worthwhile activities that help our community.  If you know of any individual that has suffered a disaster or a not-for-profit organization that has financial needs, please contact one of the chapter board members so we can plan an activity.  We are also actively seeking at least two more Thrivent Financial members who would be interested in becoming a part of our chapter board.  The term is for one year and you cannot serve more than four consecutive terms.  We have some board members that will be serving their forth term and we need new members to carry on our worthwhile activities.   Please consider serving or recommend someone who may be willing and able to join our group.
