Summer Newsletter:Thrivent Financial for Lutherans: Flaming Gorge Chapter
Greetings!
As we look at the calendar and see that the month of July is half way over and the temperatures are on the rise, the board hopes that all of you are enjoying the summer thus far.  The calendar also tells your board members that the year is half way over and there are many things that still need to be done within the chapter before the end of the year.  We are asking for your help so that we will not lose our funding for next, or the possiblity of the chapter itself.  Please prayerfully consider doing some hands-on service or fund-raising activities in your community and becoming a board member for the year 2005.

Care in Congregations(TM)
Did you know that Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has a program called Care in Congregations™ where funding is provided to Thrivent Financial members to conduct fund-raising and/or hands-on service activities to benefit your congregation or its related Lutheran institutions? In fact, Thrivent Financial members are encouraged to use the funds to help the congregation in its ministry to the community.

If you see a need in your congregation that could be helped through this funding, please contact a Thrivent Financial congregational coordinator in your congregation. If you don't know who your three congregational coordinators are, please contact a member of our chapter leadership board as noted in this newsletter, and he/she will help you get in touch with a coordinator.  The board encourages you to use this money.  Several congregations have yet to do so.

Care Abounds in Communities(TM)
Through Care Abounds in Communities™, anyone in our chapter can organize a community service team and help others. It doesn't take a lot of time or a long-term commitment! Contact a member of our chapter leadership board as noted in this newsletter for assistance in getting started.

ABC 1-2-3
Is someone in your community suffering from health problems and high medical expenses? Do you know a family in financial need who could use help maintaining their home? Is there a school, community park or camp that could benefit from new equipment?

Through the exciting chapter Care program called Care Abounds in Communities™, Thrivent Financial provides funding to members who form community service teams to conduct fund-raising or hands-on service activities to help individuals, families and/or qualified not-for-profit organizations.

So, do you want to help, but don't know how to get started? It's as easy as ABC 1-2-3.

This online tool—located at www.thrivent.com/ABC—is available to help you translate your desire to help into an action plan for making a difference. It provides easy steps to guide you as well as ideas, checklists and tips so you can successfully form a community service team and execute an activity through your Thrivent Financial for Lutherans chapter.

Here's a glimpse of topics you can read about:

Getting things started
1. Identify recipient of funds or service project.
2. Form your community service team.
3. Explore your capabilities; select your activity.

Making a plan
1. Request chapter leadership board funding approval.
2. Plan activity logistics and details.
3. Get the word out.

Do it! And Celebrate!
1. Do it! Carry out your plans to help others.
2. Celebrate completion of activity and recognize your volunteers.
3. Tell us what you did. Then pay bills and provide funds to recipient.

If you have questions about forming a community service team, conducting an activity or the Care Abounds in Communities™ program, please contact one of our chapter leadership board members.
We have many in the chapter, help us use it.

Flaming Gorge Chapter Election
It will soon be time to elect  your Chapter Leadership Board.  Would you please consider taking one of these volunteer positions!

National Board of Directors Election
"Your organization - your vote - now easier than ever before"

If you're a benefit member* of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, you have a unique opportunity --you are able to select who serves on the national board of directors for a Fortune 500 organization. And this year, voting is becoming easier! The Winter 2004 issue of Thrivent magazine will include ballots for all benefit members living in a household. (Households with more than four benefit members may receive a separate mailing with additional ballots.)

Watch your mailbox in October for the Winter edition of Thrivent magazine. Take a few minutes to review the voting materials and cast your vote. Voting for our board has never been easier!

* Benefit members are generally members age 16 or older who own an insurance or annuity product from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and have applied for and been accepted for membership in accordance with the membership eligibility rules of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
