Join Hands Day Project with Sky Ranch Lutheran Camp on May 16, 2009
Join Hands Day (JHD) is a national volunteer day effort that brings youth and adults together to improve communities and have fun while helping others. This year the Twin Peaks Chapter has selected a project with Sky Ranch Lutheran Camp, west of Fort Collins, to build fences and enclosures for their new Horseback Riding Program. The Twin Peaks Chapter has approved $500 for a Hands-on Service activity to provide materials and supplies to support the effort. Rod Pearce, Executive Director of Lutheran Ranches of the Rockies - Sky Ranch, has invited the work crew to arrive as early as Friday evening and stay as long as Sunday at no cost to the workers. For meals and sleeping accommodations, we must provide the camp by May 9 with the arrival and departure times of each worker.

The candidate jobs at the camp include: fencing and enclosures of paddock area, ring, and corral; shed for meds and tack; clear debris at site; electric power for refrigerator and lights; clear trees; and add water line for trough. It is suggested that we bring sledge hammers and cordless drills. Of course, gloves, eye protection, hat, sun protection, layers of clothing, etc. should be considered by each worker.

If you are interested in participating in this project, contact a Twin Peaks Chapter officer. Bob Mohling is the service team contact – you can reach him at 303.499.2333 or at bmohling@comcast.net to obtain more information or to sign up for the project. He suggests that you go to the Sky Ranch website to learn more about the camp at www.LdoubleR.org. It has information about the camp and driving instructions from Fort Collins. Remember: JHD is a volunteer day to bring youth and adults together, so make sure to invite the youth from your church, family, and neighborhood. Last year, Thrivent chapters conducted nearly 3,000 JHD activities, resulting in more than 600,000 hours of service.

The Strength of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans
What has made Thrivent Financial strong and stable? As a not-for-profit, we don’t focus on quarterly earning to keep Wall Street happy. We focus on you, your long-term security and helping you with what we know is important: your family, your congregation, your community. As a fraternal benefit society (a special type of membership group), we share with you a common bond – the bond of Lutheranism. We share your beliefs and your values, like faith, family, stewardship and service. We are not immune from market upheavals, but we actively work to safeguard your today and your tomorrow. Your financial security is our mission.

Another part of our mission is to provide you with solutions to care for others. As a fraternal benefit society, when we sell our proprietary annuity and insurance products, the money we would otherwise pay in taxes on those profits goes back to the communities, congregations and causes our members care about. It’s an aspect of who we are that makes us unique: in essence – you, and what you do through our programs and resources. Every day, you volunteer and help others, whether  through money raised and donated (more than 183 million in 2008) or through projects like stocking food shelves, building houses, raising money to help someone in need, or hosting seminars about translating financial values into action.

In all, our members volunteered more than 22 million hours, last year and that’s just one more way we remain strong and healthy. Together we can help each other, and help our communities, in this economy and beyond.
