Monthly Board Meeting
May 11, 2006
Eternal Savior Lutheran Church, Lafayette, CO

The meeting was called to order at 6:40 pm by Mark Moore. He also opened the meeting with a prayer.

The new members through May 10, 2006 were accepted by a motion from Becky Nichols, a second from Linda Thompson and approved. Volunteer hours for the month include: Mark Moore 1.5 hours, Harriett Couillard 24 hours, Nancy Timm 2 hours, Ed Allen 14 hours, Connie Allen 10 hours, Jim Heins (pending) hours, Arlene Skaggs (pending) hours. The meeting hours for the Board included 15 hours.

Harriet presented the latest financial report. A motion for approval was made by Linda Thompson, seconded by Becky Nichols and approved.

Mark Moore asked about a separate checking account for the Thrivent Builds project, funded by the chapter’s operating funds to cover miscellaneous expenses such as gas, copies, postage incurred by Jim Heins. The Records director will e-mail Jim to see if he has any expenses he would like to submit for reimbursement. A separate account was not deemed necessary at this time.

A review of the April 29th Congregational Coordinator Training was discussed. Attendance was down this year from last. Overall, the participants took away some new and useful information about Thrivent.

July 15th has been designated as the date for the Twin Peaks Chapter Pig Roast. It will be held at the Willow Farm Park in Longmont from 1:00 to 5:00 pm. Postcards to reserve the date and the newsletter mailing will be moved up to promote the event. Final arrangements will be reviewed at the June 8th meeting.

Old Business:
Funding requests approved at the April meeting, requestors have been notified. The Board will be copied on the funding request notifications going forward.


New Business:
The following fund raising and service projects were reviewed by the Board:

  1. Rainbow Trail Camp Memorial Day Work Weekend – Dave Jarvis was approved as a Join Hands Day project for $1,000. A motion to approve was made by Becky and seconded by Linda. The approval was contingent upon Dave designating a service team of six Thrivent households before the event on Memorial Day weekend. The approval passed based on the contingency. The Records Director will e-mail and ask for the service team to complete the request.
  2. Relay for Life Cancer Walk – Longmont Team- Colleen Beyer A motion to grant $1,000 at a $1 for $1 match was made by Becky, seconded by Linda and passed. Further clarification on the service team members will be done by the Records Director.
  3. Relay for Life Cancer Walk – Broomfield Team – Jackie Mensing A motion to grant $1,000 at a $1 for $1 match was made by Becky, seconded by Linda and passed. Further clarification on the service team will be done by the Records Director.
  4. Jeremy Rhode – Seminary expenses – Mark Bunge – A motion was made to grant $5,000 at a $2 for $1 match was made by Becky, seconded by Nancy and passed.
  5. Join Hands Day Projects for 2006 will be the Rainbow Trail Memorial Day Work Weekend and the Board to assemble some survival kits for the Firemen serving this wildfire season in Colorado. A motion, second and approval to allot $500 from operating funds for the project was made. Linda Thompson will head up this project and keep the Board informed of upcoming assembly dates and times.
  6. Beautiful Savior Lutheran School Walk-a-thon – Crystal Harriett No motion for approval was made.

The next meeting for the Board is scheduled for Thursday, June 8th at 6:30 pm at Eternal Savior Lutheran Church in Lafayette, CO. The meeting was closed with a prayer by Ed Allen at 7:50 pm.
