Thrivent Leadership Board Monthly Meeting Minutes

Opening prayer by President, Mark Moore

Called to order by Mark Moore at 6:30 pm.

Roll Call:
Mark Moore, President
Ed Mohrman, Vice President
Nancy Timm, Records Director
Arlene Skaggs, past officer and guest

Review of new members was moved by Nancy and seconded by Ed for approval. The motion passed unanimously.
The minutes for the December meeting were reviewed. A motion to approve was made by Mark, seconded by Nancy and passed unanimously.

Volunteer hours for the month of September include: Mark Moore -4, Ed Mohrman – 2, Nancy Timm – 15, Ed Allen - and Jim Heins - .

Financial Report – Operating Funds balance of $2,106.26 with an additional $4,000 to be deposited before the end of January. Chapter program funds for 2007 are $26,965.

Old Business
Linda Thompson was able to provide Thrivent with the information need regarding the Messiah Lutheran School cabbage Burger sale.

Twin Peaks Chapter will hold a leadership dinner on Saturday, January 20th at the Red Lion Inn at 5:30 pm for all 2006 and 2007 board officers and a guest.

New Business
A motion to approve the following appointments to the Leadership Board was made by Nancy, seconded by Ed and approved:
Ed Allen – Financial Director
Tom Cree as Congregational Coordinator
Bob Mohling as Assistance Financial Director
Jim Heins as Thrivent Build Chapter Coordinator

An Audit Committee is being formed. Colleen Beyer from Bethlehem Lutheran was agreed to serve on the committee. Michelle Rehme will also be approached to serve. The Audit will take place on Saturday, February 17th at Ed Allen’s Home, 2415 Corey Street, Longmont, CO 80501-1216. Another Audit committee member is being sought. Current and past officers of the chapter can participate in the audit but not serve on the Audit committee.

Chapter Leadership Board Training in Denver will be held on February 3rd from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm with lunch provided. Location is to be announced. Save the date.

The following funding requests were reviewed:
Beautiful Savior Lutheran School Sailing with the Stars silent and live auction on February 2, 2007. Expected proceeds are $20,000 with 5,000 volunteer hours. Service team is requesting $1,600 from three Thrivent chapters including Twin Peaks.
A motion to match $1 for every $2 raised up to $1,600 was made by Nancy, seconded by Ed and approved. Thrivent recognition should be made at the event. A Multiple Chapter worksheet will be required when reporting results.

Risen Savior Youth is sponsoring a Caring tree fund raiser for the Real Choice Pregnancy Care Center. The project will run from January 31st to February 18th expecting $500 proceeds and 150 volunteer hours.
A motion to match $1 for every $1 raised up to $500 was made by Mark and seconded by Ed and passed.

The Thrivent Front Range Group submitted a request for a Thrivent display for use at events for publicity and awareness. This request was tabled by the board. The Board will need more information regarding this request and feel it is a business expense and unclear how it relates to volunteerism. The Front Range Group will be asked to attend the next Leadership Board Meeting and make a presentation.

A follow up with Lorre and Terry Forde at Rejoice Lutheran will be made before the next Leadership Board Meeting regarding their request for matching funding for a fellow member who lost her home in a fire.

A request was received from the Interfaith Quilters of Longmont for their 21st Annual Quilt Show and Sale on March 2 -3, 2007. They expect to raise $20,000 with 8,700 volunteer hours. Proceeds from the sale go to the OUR center and Safe Shelter of St. Vrain Valley.
A motion to match $1 for every $2 raised up to $1,600 and $400 of operating funds to purchase supplies was made by Mark, seconded by Nancy and passed.

The Solid Education Foundation submitted a request for their 4th Annual Chili Cook Off to be held February 16 -17, 2007. They expect to raise $10,000 with 400 volunteer hours. They have requested 1,500 from four Thrivent Chapters including Twin Peaks.
This request was tabled and further information will be requested about the benefits to the students in the Twin Peaks Chapter.

Arlene presented a request for the Lutheran Lay Conference “Our Lutheran Faith -Recovering Lutheran Identity” on February 17th in Ft. Collins. They would like some assistance to cover conference expenses.
A motion by Mark to provide $500 in operating funds was made and seconded by Ed and passed. Arlene will provide information about the volunteer hours.

The next meeting of the Leadership Board is scheduled for Thursday, February 15th at Eternal Savior Lutheran at 6:30 pm.

A motion to adjourn was made at 8:00 pm.
