Join Us for the Annual Picnic and Officer Elections
You are invited to join us on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011, at Barry-Platte Park, 8526 NW Old Stagecoach
Kansas City, MO 64154 for our annual Chapter Picnic and Officer Elections.  The fun begins at 5:00pm with delicious BBQ being served shortly thereafter.  There will also be door prizes.  And it's all FREE!  Please join us.

For planning purposes, we ask that you RSVP by Sept 11 to Sharon King - jsnrking@kc.rr.com.  We hope to see you there!

IMAGINE what a difference you can make!
Imagine yourself as part of a group of caring people with the opportunity to decide how best to use funding that benefits people in need and your community. Imagine being able to increase the impact that money has through community involvement, awareness, additional funds raised and the caring work of many hands. And imagine being able to help Thrivent Financial members come together for charitable, educational and social purposes.

Chapter leaders with the Platte County Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans do just that! And with chapter leader elections just around the corner, the time to get involved is NOW! Our chapter will have (several) leadership opportunities for next year. The only requirements are: being a Thrivent Financial member; a desire to help people; and five to 15 hours per month volunteer time (depending on the position).

We very much need you on the chapter leadership board—without a full board, our chapter will not qualify for the funding that helps people and our community. Help us take full advantage of this unique opportunity to significantly impact our community and contact Ken Kisker, (816) 330-3523, today to find out more or add your name to the election ballot.

If serving on the chapter leadership board does not work for you but you'd like to be involved or volunteer in some capacity, there are many other volunteer opportunities, both short-term and longer-term, available as well. Please contact us and we'll describe how you can make a difference through the Thrivent chapter system in a way that fits into your schedule.

Economic Update Workshop
When you have a better understanding of the financial markets and their trends, you can make more informed decisions. Join us for this informational presentation on how the changing economy can impact the investment market and how emotion can affect decisions.

Thrivent will be holding its annual Economic Update workshop on Tuesday, October 18, 2011, 6:00pm, at The Airport Hilton.  Everyone is invited to attend.  Dinner will be served.  This year's presenter will be Fran Szarejko.  Information on registering for this event will be coming soon.

Thrivent Choice: An easy way to help support what matters to you
The Thrivent Choice program offers two ways members can recommend where to direct a portion of Thrivent Financial's charitable outreach funds.

1. Voting Events: All members (age 16 and older) can vote to help direct a portion of Thrivent Financial's charitable funds among a short list of national charities one to two times per year.

2. Choice Dollars: Eligible benefit members can help direct funds all year long to thousands of Lutheran nonprofit organizations like schools, camps, colleges – or even to their Lutheran congregations. Benefit members age 16 or older are eligible to participate in Choice Dollars if they:

Hold a Thrivent Financial volunteer leadership position; or
Have $800 or more in annual premiums of qualifying insurance products; or
Have $20,000 or more in contract value of qualifying products.
Member eligibility under current eligibility requirements is determined monthly, and these eligibility requirements are re-evaluated on an annual basis.
Participation is simple and easy, without any complicated forms to complete. You'll be able to vote or direct Choice Dollars in a way that's convenient for you. Visit www.thrivent.com/thriventchoice or call 800-THRIVENT (800-847-4836) and say “Thrivent Choice” for more information.

Thrivent Choice, Thrivent Choice Voting, Thrivent Choice Dollars and Choice Dollars are intellectual property of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.  Directing Thrivent Choice Dollars and participating in Voting Events are subject to the Terms and Conditions of the Thrivent Choice program and if you direct any Thrivent Choice Dollars or participate in any Voting Events this means that you agree to the Terms and Conditions.

Show you care for your community
Show you care for your community through an exciting Thrivent Financial program called Care Abounds in Communities®. Through this program, Thrivent Financial provides funding to support members like you who want to make a difference. Accessing supplemental funds for fund-raising efforts or funds to purchase supplies for hands-on service activities is easy through our chapter leadership board. Your first step is to form a community service team—a team of volunteers that conducts an activity to help individuals, families and/or qualified not-for-profit organizations. Then you can contact our chapter leadership board for more information and help.

Chapter Website
Did you know that our chapter has its own Web site? You can find it at www.thrivent.com - after logging in, click "Information about my chapter", then "chapter website".

Working for our Community
The Platte County Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is involved in many projects in our community through Thrivent's Care Abounds in Communities.  To date, we have contibuted more than $5,000 to fund-raising and hands-on work projects in our area.  Some of the recipients are the local food banks, Hilcrest Ministries, sandbagging volunteers, and military organizations.

If you know of a project that could use a helping hand, please let us know.  We will be happy to help you determine if your project qualifies for funding and assist in the paperwork required.  We look forward to hearing from you.

Who are eligible recipients for the Care Abounds in Communities® program?
Eligible recipients for the Care Abounds in Communities® program are individuals, families, local communities or organizations that are exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, excluding congregations. (This includes charitable, educational and religious organizations, excluding congregations.)

Although congregations are not eligible recipients for the Care Abounds in Communities® program, remember that service teams still can use the program to help an eligible recipient.

For more information on this program, please visit www.thrivent.com > Thrivent Community > Programs & Outreach > Volunteering Programs > Care Abounds in Communities.
