CARE ABOUNDS IN COMMUNITIES™
Thrivent Financial has provided the San Mateo County Chapter with just over $19,000 in supplemental funds to be distributed this year to community organizations and projects (not congregations), based on applications approved by the Chapter board.  Be sure to come to the Ice Cream Social on April 10 to learn how these funds can be accessed this year.  Your congregation can make a difference in your community, local or world wide! Again, all supplemental fund activities must be approved in advance by the Chapter board for “Care Abounds in Communities” projects.

SUGGESTIONS FOR FUND RAISING ACTIVITIES
If you are looking for ways to raise funds for the Care in Congregations® or the Care Abounds in Communities™ programs, here are some ideas:  Ticket sales for a piano concert at church; Octoberfest; dinner and talent show; peach festival – bake and sell peach cobblers/pies; yard or garage sale; pancake breakfast; Easter brunch; love offerings; fish fry.  The possibilities are endless and creative!  Please come to the April 10 Ice Cream Social to share ideas!

JOIN HANDS DAY
Join Hands Day is a national day of volunteering that helps thousands of communities and sparks friendships among people of all generations as they come together to plan and conduct activities.  Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is a major supporter of the annual JOIN HANDS DAY and encourages chapters and members to participate in this special day.

Thrivent Financial will provide each chapter with $1,000 of JOIN HANDS DAY seed money that can be sued to purchase supplies, refreshments, promotional items, etc. for the activity.

To get started –
- Form a service team that involves individuals or families from at least six Thrivent Financial member households.  Encourage youth and adults to partner for the day’s activity.
- Community improvement service activities are great JOIN HANDS DAY activities.  Since the focus is on building partnerships  between youth and adults, it is important that you include young people from the beginning as you select the activity.
- Contact Lisa Hunt, Chapter Event Director, Audiolit@aol.com to request forms and inquire about available funds to assist with the activity.
- If you need help in planning, visit www.thrivent.com/abc.  ABC 1-2-3 is an online activity planning tool to help members develop an action plan for making a difference.
- Thrivent Financial encourages us to conduct your JOIN HANDS DAY activity on May 7.  However, you can conduct an activity between April 1 and June 30.
- After the activity is complete, fill out the “JOIN HANDS DAY Report Activity Results” form and return the form to Lisa by July 15
- Celebrate completion of the activity and recognize the volunteers.
