CHAPTER ACTIVITIES IN 2006 - THRIVENT, A CARING ORGANIZATION
From holding a community-wide auction to raising funds for a child with cancer, to building a handicap accessible play area at a local park, our members make a difference every day. 67 service and fund-raising activities were conducted by the San Mateo County Chapter, resulting in 8157 volunteer hours. Funds raised by these local teams totaled $72,223 which were combined with $43,235 from Thrivent Financial to multiply the good we can do together. "FEELING OLD? "LIVE GRACIOUSLY - YOU MAY BE THE ONLY SERMON SOME PEOPLE EVER READ"
I recently received a little book from our Lutheran Community Relations team. It's title is: "IF THERE WERE NO LUTHERANS WOULD THERE STILL BE GREEN JELLO?. Life One Sign at a Time" It's a collection of signs put up on an outdoor church board at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Stillwater, Minnesota by their pastor Rev. Steve Molin (The sign guy). You'll see some of his signs interspersed throughout this newsletter). It comes with a video in which Rev. Molin tells a little bit about how this came about. It's a great little book. If you are interested in buying one, contact Bette Blake, 650-589-8449 or bebablake@aol.com.
"LORD, GIVE US PATIENCE. RIGHT NOW !!!!"
ICE CREAM SOCIAL A SUCCESS
The chapter's annual Ice Cream Social was held at First Lutheran Church in South San Francisco in September. 72 members and friends attended. All said they enjoyed the music, the prizes, the ice cream, and the information provided by Chris Benson, our Financial Consultant. Most of all, we enjoyed each other's company. Next year we hope to see many more of you there. THE GOD OF LOVE IS SMILING DOWN ON YOU TODAY. SMILE BACK!
FAREWELL FROM YOUR FINANCIAL ADVISOR
I really have enjoyed working with the churches and coordinators in San Mateo County for the past three years. And I wish the chapter continued success, which I am sure you will have, as the young lady you elected is very capable. An update on what is happening up to Nov 1, 2007. We have had seven successful fundraisers. $6978 was raised with an additional $5846 in supplemental funds. I would like to commend our churches for their efforts and the coordinators for their creative fundraiser names. Examples are "Pasta Bilities", Martin Luther's Birthday Bash, Rags to Riches, and not an Oktoberfest, but an Oktober Blest!.
Again, thank you for all your help. May our Lord continue to bless our fundraising efforts! Adele.
THREE THINGS LUTHERANS LOVE - LENT, ADVENT, THRIVENT
WRITTEN RECEIPTS FOR DONORS
TO SERVICE TEAM LEADERS: Beginning this year, all monetary donations require some sort of verification to be tax deductible. Many donors may not become aware of that until tax time next year. At that time, they may go to your chapter to request written receipts for donations made at this year's chapter and Thrivent Builds events. Being proactive now will reduce the likelihood of extra work for you later. A completed and signed "Acknowledgement of Donation Received" form should be offered for all monetary donations over $25 and also for donations less than $25 if a request is made. For information contact one of the board members.
LET'S HEAR IT FOR THE COORDINATORS !!!
You have coordinated the planning, the creative thinking, the cooking and serving, and the cleaning up for your fund-raising events for your congregations and communities. You have distributed ballots and given members the opportunity to vote for the chapter board officers. You have spent hours tallying and calculating the attendance and number of hours spent in doing all of this. You have filled out forms and sent in receipts and struggled with the computer - and that's not all.......Whew!!! As well as all of that, you are the voice of the congregations to the board members and the board's voice to the congregations. What a blessing to have the opportunity to do the Lord's work together to multiply the good we do.

We are still hoping to hear from one of you who would like to help make the chapter website an interesting place to go to get an update on what is taking place throughout the chapter. Also, someone who would be interested in involving our youth members in the planning of events in the chapter. You don't have to be an elected board member. You would serve in an advisory capacity. Think about it. Contact one of the board members if you think you might help out.
