HATS OFF FRATERNAL KICKOFF
Thrivent kicked off the 2008 year with a special training session for Board members and coordinators.  The kickoff was held at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Fremont on January 19.  Training sessions were conducted by Kim Green and Mary Morey of Thrivent on a range of topics to help Board members and coordinators share ideas on how to assist our churches and communities with volunteer projects.  Pastor Steve Molin, the "church sign guy" was the keynote speaker.  During lunch, Ken Becker from Habitat for Humanity described how Thrivent and Habitat are working together to build low income housing in the area.  Over 120 attendees were present at the Hats Off event.  Our own San Mateo chapter won the award for most attendees with 22. Thank you to everyone who attended from San Mateo Chapter.

BETHANY LUTHERAN CHURCH, MENLO PARK - Care Abounds in Communities
The Women's Ministries is hosting a formal Tea for women and girls on May 17, 2008.  The theme is "Birthday Tea Party" based on Psalm 139:13-14.  Thao Perry will lead the Bible study and Kim Golter, Founder and Executive Director of Jeremiah's Promise, Inc. will be the key note speaker.

The congregation is participating in a fundraiser that will benefit Jeremiah's Promise, Inc.  Their mission is "Providing Foster Youth with Hope and a Promise for Tomorrow!"  Jeremiah's Promise is a home and program for aspiring teens that have aged out of the foster care system.  The program provides: a home; academic support while finishing high school or attending college; life skills training to help them thrive; mentors and mentor families to encourage them; counselors who support them as they begin the process of emotional healing; and a network of support from the body of Christ.

The Women's Ministries is thankful that Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will add up to $500!

CONGREGATIONAL COORDINATOR TRAINING - From Marilyn McKenna, Records Director
On April 6, 2008, a Thrivent meeting was held at Grace Lutheran Church in San Mateo for Congregational Coordinators.  The general duties, request forms and questions for Coordinators were discussed at this meeting.  Thank you to all that attended the meeting.  You do help to make the Board's job easy.  As a reminder to everyone, please get your request for funds in as soon as possible.  Your early requests are helpful for the Board so that we can be sure that we have enough money to cover all money requests.  If you were unable to attend the meeting and have general questions or ones relating to the forms, please contact Madel Duval.  Madel has taken Adele Koch's place on the board.  Madel's telephone number is 650-366-7352.  Her email address is madelduval888@hotmail.com.
