A New, Easy Way to Make a Difference!
Helping others with just a click of the mouse---really?  Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has a new Fan it Forward outreach through March 31, 2010.  It is an easy, online way to help others.  All you have to do is go to Thrivent.com/facebook and click on the Become a Fan button on the Thrivent Financial’s Facebook page.  When you do this, Thrivent Financial will donate $1.00 (up to $10,000) to Lutheran World Relief.

How can becoming a fan make a difference in our world?  25 fans ($25) will help start a crab-raising business for a woman in Southeast Asia.  100 fans ($100) will provide a family a hearty goat that produces milk for nourishment and profit.  375 fans ($375) will give a family a dairy cow that can produce more than six gallons of milk a day.   So, Fan it Forward---become a Fan today!

Congregational Advocate Volunteers
The Congregational Advocate is a new position and we are hoping to have at least one Advocate appointed for each congregation.

The Congregational Advocate serves as an advocate for both Thrivent Financial and your congregation to identify Thrivent Financial solutions that will help your congregation achieve its mission and goals.  This volunteer position will assume the primary responsibility of connecting with Thrivent Financial members, congregational leadership and congregational members to understand their needs, while partnering with Thrivent Financial representatives and chapter leadership to identify and execute solutions to meet those needs.

For more detailed information log on to the Thrivent website:  www.thrivent.com and follow the links >  Thrivent Community  >  Chapters  >  Volunteer Leader Resources  >  For Congregational Advocates  >  Leadership Interest Form.  We encourage you to view the position information and learn how you can be a valuable asset to Thrivent Financial, your chapter, and your congregation.  If you are interested in volunteering for this position for your congregation, complete the Volunteer Interest Form and submit.

Your Thrivent Chapter Dollars at Work!
Faith Lutheran Church is conducting a monthly Communities in Schools drive. Members of the congregation are invited to donate food or make a cash donation to help support their needs. CIS puts food in the backpacks of needy children to take home so they have nourishing food over the weekend. Monetary donations are being supplemented with Thrivent Care Abounds in Communities funds at the rate of $1 for each $2 cash donation.

“Communities in Schools is the nation’s largest dropout prevention organization.  The mission of Communities in Schools is to champion the connection of needed community resources with schools to help young people successfully learn, stay in school, and prepare for life."  You can learn more about Communities in Schools through the Thrivent Financial website.

St. Mark Lutheran Church has a goal of providing 100 health kits and 10 quilts for Lutheran World Relief during the month of March.  This will help LWR replenish their supply following their disaster relief to the thousands of earthquake victims this year. Members of the congregation are donating the needed items and the Chapter Board has allocated up to $125 to be used for packaging and shipping for this service project.

If the Thrivent members in your congregation are planning a Join-Hands-Day event (or other service project) you may request up to $125 from your Chapter for one such event this year. Contact your Chapter Financial Director, Julie Pennell, at 775-753-4292 for specific information on how to make a request.
