Your Local Thrivent Financial Chapter
Each Thrivent Financial for Lutherans member is assigned to one of 1,378 chartered local units of Thrivent Financial called chapters. Thrivent Financial members will be, in most cases, assigned to chapters based on the county in which they live. Therefore, you are in the Laurens-Spartanburg Chapter. This chapter includes the following churches: Atonement Lutheran Church - Laurens, SC Holy Communion Lutheran Church - Spartanburg, SC Joy Lutheran Church - Spartanburg, SC Lamb of God Lutheran Church - Spartanburg, SC Springs of Grace Lutheran Church - Boiling Springs, SC St. John's Lutheran Church - Clinton, SC St. John's Lutheran Church - Spartanburg, SC
The chapter system and Chapter Care Programs help enable Thrivent Financial for Lutherans members to aid themselves and others through voluntary action. Thrivent Financial members, in conjunction with our chapter, church and community programs, make a significant difference and impact through their help to individuals, families, congregations and communities.
What Are The Chapter Care Programs?
Care in Congregations™ Through the Care in Congregations™ chapter Care program, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans provides funding for Thrivent Financial members to conduct fund-raising activities (including appeals/collections) and/or hands-on service activities to benefit a congregation or its related Lutheran institution(s). Members are encouraged to help the congregation in its ministry to the community. Funding comes directly from Thrivent Financial to the congregational service team's congregation.
Care Abounds in Communities™
Through the Care Abounds in Communities™ chapter Care program, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans provides funding for members participating in community service teams. These teams are formed to conduct fund-raising activities (including appeals/collections) and/or hands-on service activities. Activities can benefit individuals, families, local communities or organizations that are exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, excluding congregations. (This includes charitable, educational and religious organizations, excluding congregations.) Activity requests for funding are directed to the chapter leadership board.
Care in Regions™
Through the Care in Regions™ chapter Care program, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans provides funding for members of multiple chapters to come together, through community service teams, and work with their regional manager of Lutheran community services (MLCS) to address a significant regional need.
The community service teams conduct fund-raising activities (including appeals/collections) and/or hands-on service activities that benefit individuals, families, local communities or organizations that are exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code with significant needs. (This includes charitable, educational and religious organizations.) The manager of Lutheran community services (MLCS) approves all activities.

Congregational Coordinators and Service Teams
Each congregation in the chapter should have three appointed Congregational Coordinators, who are members of a Congregational Service Team. This team includes all Thrivent Financial for Lutherans members who want to come together to help conduct fund-raising activities (including appeals/collections) and/or hands-on service activities such as painting the church or building cabinetry for the fellowship hall, for a particular congregation or its associated Lutheran institutions. If you would like more information about this, talk to one of the chapter board members or go on-line to the Thrivent web site area of Members Only, Chapter Member Administration and find out who your Congregational Coordinators are.
Watch for the following events which will be coming up in the near future: - National board of directors elections. - Next year's chapter leadership board elections. Plan to be there at the chapter meeting to elect your new chapter leadership board for 2005.
