| Laurens-Spartanburg County Chapter, Summer 2008 Update |
| Join Hands had 2 Great Days!!! |
Our First Join Hands Day was on April 17, 2008, with the Reading Celebration, at Mary H. Wright Elementary School. Participants included Mary H. Wright students, teachers, principals, Mayor's Student Service Board Project Organizers, and local youth volunteers. Excitement was built around reading and reading achievement. Students who had made gains and improvements in their reading were recognized by the Principal for their hard work. Through games and activities, they also built more interest in reading. Our Second Join Hands Day was on May 3, 2008, at the Musgrove Mill Historic Site near Clinton, SC. Approximately 30 Girl Scouts and troop leaders came together and laid sod, planted flowers around the park monument, weeded and cleaned trails. The weather was great and there were plenty of hot dogs scarfed down. The participants were from Gray Court, Greer, Spartanburg, Laurens, and Clinton. The park has made a lot of progress and this summer, they will be building a pavillion where people can reserve it as much as a year in advance. Teresa Foster was the first person to reserve it and she reserved it for the first Saturday in May 2009, National Join Hands Day.
