Pines Chapter, 2005 Review
Awards for 2005
The Pines Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans was one of the "Chapters of Excellence" winners in the South East Region of Thrivent Financial in 2005.  This means that we met or exceeded several goals defined by the SE Region.  This can only be accomplished with the help of many of the Chapter's members.  THANK YOU from the Pines Chapter Board of Directors.  Remember that we can only be successful if you participate in the various Chapter Community activities throughout the year.

We are also proud to announce that Don Barcus, a member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church, and the Pines Chapter's Community Service Team Director for 2005 was awarded the SE Region's "2006 Volunteer Excellence Award - Retired Category" for his efforts in 2005.  Don has been serving the community for many years and justly deserved the award.  CONGRATULATIONS Don!!

Community Projects for 2005
The Pines Chapter was able to help many community organizations in 2005.  Our projects raised $17,096 and added $9,990 from our Care Abounds in Comminities® funds for a total of $27,086 for community organizations.  The following non-profit organizations were helped in 2005:

Sandhills Interfaith Hospitality Network
Moore Coalition for Human Care
Sandhills Food Bank
MANNA! in Motion

2005 Join Hands Day Project
Our Chapter was, again, a participant in the nationwide Join Hands Day activities.  Join Hands Day is a time when youth and adults team up to work on a project that serves the community at large.  In 2005, youth and adults from our Chapter went to Camp Agape and helped to build trails by clearing brush and putting down bark,  Thrivent Financial gives each Chapter $1,000 to use for the project.  Our money was used to buy the bark and several wheel barrows for use by the camp.  A group of 26 youths and adults worked at the camp.

Congregation Projects for 2005
The five congregations in our Chapter held eleven Hands-on Service and Fund-raiser projects during the year to help their congregations and/or local communities. These activities included a holiday bazaar, Super Bowl subs, Care Ministry Meals preparation, Autism awareness dinner, Jr. Youth car wash, Advent devotional booklets, room remodeling, class room carpeting, audio/visual project and a moving project.  These projects were carried out by Thrivent Financial members and other volunteers within the congregations  with support from the Care in Congregations® allocation from Thrivent Financial.

Pines Chapter Members
The Pines Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans includes all members of Thrivent Financial who live in the counties listed previously.  If you attend a Lutheran Church outside of these counties, you can  transfer your Chapter membership to the Chapter supporting the Lutheran Church you are attending.  Only you, the member, can effect this transfer.  To do this, contact Thrivent Financial directly at 1-800-236-3736 and tell them that you want to transfer from the Pines Chapter to the Chapter your church is assigned to.

Chapter Board of Directors for 2007
This is the last year that several Chapter Board members can serve on the Chapter Board.  Directors are limited to four consecutive years and then must be off for two years before they can again serve.  The Chapter Board of Directors has the responsibily of determining what projects and non-profit organizations will be the recipients of our Care Abounds in Communities® funds.  They also support the various congregations in local projects.  Your participation as a Chapter Board member is needed for 2007 to fill vacancies.  Please give consideration to serving if you are asked (or volunteer for a position).  If we do not have all required positions filled each year, we can lose our funding and/or our Chapter may be merged with another Chapter.  This means that many local organizations that we support can lose much needed funding.  If you wish to volunteer your services (no experience necessary), please contact the current Chapter President.

Closing
It is only through the the members of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and other friends, that the work of the Chapter in the community can take place. The time and the funds that you provide for Chapter projects, along with the funds provided by Thrivent Financial, can make a difference in our communities.  It is up to each of us to use the time and talents that God has given to us by participating that makes this whole effort a success.

A BIG Thank You to all who helped in 2005.  Let's keep the good work going in 2006 and beyond.

Thanks to all for your hard work.
