Here’s a few things you should know about your chapter. Your chapter is one of nearly 1,400 nationwide chartered local units of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans that bringsThrivent Financial for Lutherans members together for charitable, social and educational activities. Chapters are organized geographically, primarily by county. The Central Blue Ridge NC Chapter has over two thousand five hundred (2,500) Members. And includes twenty (20) Church Congregations, located in Fifteen (15) Counties in Western North Carolina. All Thrivent Financial for Lutherans members belong to a chapter in the area in which they live, which enables them to aid themselves and others through voluntary action. You do not need to be a member of one of the Congregations to get involved all though most activites begin in a Congregation, just contact either a Congregation, listed in the News Letter, or contact a chapter Board member. Each chapter has a leadership board made up of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans members who are elected and/or appointed. The chapter leadership board is responsible for allocating funds to service teams for helping individuals and community organizations. Caring, commitment, community. These three words are the heart of who we are at Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Our members and employees see needs in our communities and we work together to give life to our mission of caring for others. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will make available $100,000,000.00 beginning in 2006 and for a four year period to build 500 additional homes each year in the USA and the World. The Southeast Region of Thrivent that includes the Central Blue Ridge NC Chapter will build 10 to 15 homes in 2006 and in future years. This program is in addition to any other on going Habitat commitments in the Region. In order for the chapter to be considered and to vie for a Habitat House in the chapter area in 2007 the following must occur: First we now have a Habitat Specialist on the Board who will work with the Habitat Affiliates in the chapter area and assist in training Thrivent Champions and volunteers. Second we need to have a Habitat Champion in each of our Congregations who will assist in getting volunteers and having fund raising activities to raise the necessary funds to build a Habitat House. Third the Chapter and Affiliate must raise part of the cost of the house. From the first nail to the last, building a home with Habitat for Humanity International is a profound experience for all involved. It’s not just sticks and blocks. It’s tears and smiles, borne of hard work and faith. And it’s the knowledge that you’ve helped change lives. That’s why Thrivent Financial for Lutherans works with Habitat. And it’s why we want to do more. Much more. In 2006 and beyond, Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity will engage Lutherans congregations, Thrivent Financial chapters and members, Habitat affiliates, and individuals from across the United States and around the world to build hundreds of homes per year with families in need, provide mission trips for Christian outreach in local and foreign communities, and directly reduce poverty housing and homelessness around the world. Part of Thrivent Financial’s mission as a faith-based membership organization is caring for others. Participating in this program with Habitat is a prime example of this mission in action.
Fraternal benefit societies such as Thrivent financial for Lutherans along with Points of Light Foundation and Volunteer Center National Network, sponsor JOIN HANDS DAY. This special day is designed to bring youths and adults together to help others in their community. You can join the fun on May 6, 2006 Join hands —and generations—-to help others is the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans theme for JOIN HANDS DAY. Members, through their chapters, are organizing JOIN HANDS DAY projects now. How to get started. If you are a Thrivent Financial for Lutherans member, consider forming a JOIN HANDS DAY service team in your Congregation, along with the Youth Director.
