Central Blue Ridge NC Chapter, "I can't do all the good the world needs, but the world needs all the good I can do".
Join Hands Day
Fraternal benefit societies such as Thrivent Financial for Lutherans along with Points of Light Foundation and Volunteer Center National Network, sponsor JOIN HANDS DAY.

This special day is designed to bring youths and adults together to help others in their community. You can join the fun on May 6, 2006
Join Hands Day, is particularly directed at the young Lutherans. If you have children, no matter how young or how old, in your home, please take this opportunity, May 6th, to teach them the value and need for them to participate in volunteering through out life.

Join hands —and generations—-to help others is the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans theme for JOIN HANDS DAY. Members, through their chapters, are organizing JOIN HANDS DAY projects now.

This year your Chapter will have two Events:  Camp Linnville              Camp Lutheridge

You as Thrivent Financial for Lutherans member, consider which event to participate in, then form a JOIN HANDS DAY service team, raise funds to be used for the event, and have fun while helping.

Note: there may be a possibility for overnight accommodations at the Camps for Friday Night May 5th.

Habitat for Humanity & Thrivent Builds
Caring, commitment, community. These three words are the heart of who we are at Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Our members and employees see needs in our communities and we work together to give life to our mission of caring for others.
From the first nail to the last, building a home with Habitat for Humanity International is a profound experience for all involved. It’s not just sticks and blocks. It’s tears and smiles, borne of hard work and faith. And it’s the knowledge that you’ve helped change lives.

That’s why Thrivent Financial for Lutherans works with Habitat. And it’s why we want to do more. Much more. In 2006 and beyond, Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity will engage Lutherans congregations, Thrivent Financial chapters and members, Habitat affiliates, and individuals from across the United States and around the world to build hundreds of homes per year with families in need, provide mission trips for Christian outreach in local and foreign communities, and directly reduce poverty housing and homelessness around the world.
Part of Thrivent Financial’s  mission as a faith-based membership organization is caring for others. Participating in this program with Habitat is a prime example of this mission in action.

Though there is a lot more involved, in order for our chapter to be considered and to vie for a Habitat House in our Chapter area in 2007 the following must occur: We need to have a Habitat Champion in each of our Congregations who will assist in getting volunteers and having fund raising activities to raise the necessary funds to build a Habitat House. And the Chapter must raise at least 10%, the Affiliate must raise 20% while Thrivent Financial furnishes the remaining 70% of the cost of the home.
Once approved the Congregations in the Chapter must supply half the labor to construct the home.
And we must start now to lay the necessary ground work. We can start now by having fundraising activities in our Congregations to support Homes being built this year in the local Habitat Affiliates. Please, when you raise money and/or provide any volunteer hours report it to the Habitat Specialist (below), as these efforts will go a long way in insuring a Thrivent Builds/Habitat House for 2007! We need you!

Young people can't work on the homes but they can be involved in fund raising and planning leading up to driving nails.
