| Another Thrivent Builds Grant for Western North Carolina |
Great news - our chapter and the Asheville Affiliate of Habitat for Humanity have been selected to receive a Thrivent Builds grant for 2009. This house will be in the Habitat Enka Hills subdivision, the same subdivision in which the 2007 Thrivent Builds home is located. The Lutheran Church of the Nativity will be the lead congregation for this build, with Abiding Savior, Emmanuel and St. Mark's Lutheran Churches also participating. These four churches will provide 10% of the funding for the house. In addition, 50% of volunteers that help with the house must be Lutheran, and 25% must be Thrivent members. These volunteers can be from any Lutheran congregation and can be associate Thrivent members.
Although build dates have not been set, we are excited about some specially designated days for this build. The first Saturday will include a wall raising ceremony and will be sponsored by the Financial Representatives. The goal is to have 30 to 50 Thrivent members participate that day. The sixth Saturday will be a Lutheran Women's Build Day. Other Saturdays will be assigned to specific congregations, with all other build days to be coordinated with an inter-church schedule. Besides needing people to participate on work crews, there are also opportunities to be a host signing in volunteers and leading an opening prayer, or working on a lunch crew that provides lunch for volunteers. There is a job for anyone that would like to participate!
