Restore Event Successful

Thank you for your support of the "Restore" event last month. It was a great turnout and a lot of awareness was created about Thrivent, the good our Chapter does and our Thrivent Builds program. We had over 1000 people there throughout the day, gave away over 600 cookies and had over 25 people indicate they wanted to meet with us about financial or other needs.

We're very proud of our partnership with Habitat for Humanity.  We look forward to another successful year in 2012!

Elections

The Central Blue Ridge Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will hold their elections for the 2012 Thrivent Chapter Local Board of Directors in all of the churches within the chapter on SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 6 AND SUNDAY NOVEMBER 13. Please stop by the “Thrivent Table” at your parish and cast your vote.

Have Fun Helping Others

WANTED: A person with a caring heart to help bring local Lutherans and Thrivent members together to learn, have fun and help others. Chapters of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans plan and carry out a variety of educational, social and charitable activities, and our Chapter is looking for volunteers to serve on our chapter leadership board.

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans provides funding for members who, through volunteer activities, want to aid people and nonprofit organizations needing help in the community. The chapter leadership board plans educational and social activities and reviews charitable funding requests. New people are now being sought for chapter leader positions to help continue the Thrivent Financial tradition of bringing Lutherans together and helping others.

REQUIREMENTS for volunteer positions: A Thrivent Financial member, a desire to help others, and five to 12 hours per month of volunteer time.

BENEFITS: A smile on the faces of others you've helped and a good feeling in knowing you’re building connections with Thrivent members, communities and congregations.

INTERESTED? Call Layne Kasischke, Chapter Advisor at 828-697-2337

Thrivent Choice

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has introduced a new charitable grant program and benefit of membership called Thrivent Choice. As the name implies, it's designed to give members a voice in how Thrivent Financial distributes some of its charitable outreach funds each year.  Thrivent Choice has two components:

1. Voting Events: All members (age 16 and older) will have an opportunity to vote to help direct a portion of Thrivent Financial's charitable funds among a short list of national charities one to two times per year.

2. Choice Dollars: Eligible benefit members will be able to help direct funds all year long to thousands of Lutheran nonprofit organizations like schools, camps, colleges—or even your Lutheran congregation.

Participation is simple and easy, without any complicated forms to complete. Members have until March 31 to direct their Choice Dollars.  You'll be able to vote or direct Choice Dollars in a way that's convenient for you. Visit www.thrivent.com/thriventchoice or call 800-THRIVENT (800-847-4836) for more information.

Educational Workshops Available to Your Congregation

What is one of the greatest needs congregations have? Financial education is often at the top of the list. There are more than 20 financial education workshops already available covering topics like:

 * Basic budgeting, saving and debt management
 * Preparing for and living in retirement
 * Protecting yourself from identity theft

Talk with your Thrivent Financial representative and church leaders about which of these workshops might best fit your congregation's needs, to arrange timing and venues and to promote the upcoming event.

Are You a Job-Seeker?

If you're looking for a job – or know someone who is – check out the Job Transition Resources from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Practical tools are delivered in eight educational modules you complete online at your convenience. Topics range from cover letters and interview tips, to making use of social media and negotiating benefits when you get a job offer.

There are also financial checklists that provide hints based on your circumstance, whether you are anticipating job loss, currently unemployed or recently hired. The resources provide tips for navigating emotionally and spiritually during transition as well.

Visit Thrivent.com/jobchange to get started. (There's an easy "email a friend" feature so you can share it with people who may benefit from the job tools.)
Thrivent Financial has a long history of helping members in times of crisis. The current high unemployment rate prompted the development of these resources, but they are relevant to anyone who is seeking a job, including new college graduates and people seeking a voluntary career change.
