Deadline Approaches to direct 2010 Choice Dollars
Eligible Thrivent benefit members have until March 31, 2011 to direct their 2010 Thrivent Choice dollars to a Lutheran organization of their choice. Eligible benefit members can help direct funds all year long to thousands of Lutheran nonprofit organizations like schools, camps, colleges – or even to their Lutheran congregations. Benefit members age 16 or older are eligible to participate in Choice Dollars if they:
Hold a Thrivent Financial volunteer leadership position; or
Have $800 or more in annual premiums of qualifying insurance products; or
Have $20,000 or more in contract value of qualifying products.
If you have questions about how to go about making a designation, please contact Frank Bernhardt in Camden (803-432-5651) or Jim Ballentine in Lancaster (803-285-4149.  Members who made a Choice Dollar designation last year may want to check their 2010 Choice Dollar balance again.  Additional Choice Dollars were designated to individual accounts in December, in some cases after the member made their designation, leaving a balance that must be taken care of by the March 31st deadline.

Choice Dollars can be designated in one of two ways.  For those who have a computer and an online Thrivent account, log on to your account and click on the "Designate Choice Dollars" menu on the right of the screen.  Follow the instructions from there.

If you do not have online access, you may call Thrivent at  1-800-847-4836 and follow the prompts given.  You will need the last four digits of your Social Security Number for identification.  You will be also be given the option of having your Choice Dollars go to the same institution each year without your making further contact with Thrivent, although this is entirely your option.

Upcoming Events
Several important activities will be taking place in early 2011.  Chapter officer training takes place on Saturday , March 12 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Columbia.  On Saturday, March 19, 2011, the chapter will hold its first all-member meeting of the year, at Reformation Lutheran Church in Lancaster Further details of the meeting will be provided a little later, but please mark your calendar for the evening of the 19th. Chapter  members will get together for dinner and an educational program. The program will be given by Financial Representatives of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Members in the Camden area will carpool to Lancaster - stay tuned for details!

It's also not too early to begin planning for Join Hands Day. This year it is scheduled for Saturday, May 7.  Your chapter leadership board has approved another work project at Camp Kinard for this year's Join Hands Day activity.  We will go to Camp Kinard on Friday, May 6th, and we are planning a second all-member meeting that evening, with dinner and a social activity.  Even if you can't stay overnight at the camp and participate in Saturday's work, please come for the Friday evening dinner and social.

Projects Needed
Our chapter has received its "Care Abounds in Communities" allocation for 2011, in the amount of $5265.00.  This money is intended to be used to benefit needy individuals, families or non-profit organizations (these are organizations that fall under the 501(c)(3) IRS code). The activities can be hands-on work projects, where we can use the program  funds to purchase supplies needed to do the work, or through fund-raising efforts, with the program funds used to add to funds raised

If you know of a worthwhile individual, family or non-profit organization in need of assistance, please share your idea with one our Board members.  We want to be sure that all our allocated funds are used during the year and we need your assistance to make sure this happens.
