Columbus GA Chapter, March Quarterly Newsletter
Greetings from the 2006 Columbus Chapter Leadership Board of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. I am very excited about this years' board and the events we are planning. Your Chapter Leaders for 2006 are: President John Ninke (Redeemer) Vice President Karen Crout (Redeemer) Records Director Twila Main (Redeemer) Financial Director Wayne Ramming (St. Matthews) Congregational Service Team Director Liz Barksdale (St. Matthews) Communications Director Jan Amundson (Redeemer) Assistant Financial Director Michelle Pratt (St. Matthews)
CONGREGATIONAL COORDINATORS
Please let me know if you are interested in being a congregation coordinator for Redeemer, we have one coordinator who would like to step down. We are still looking for a Community Service Team Director, Events Director & Youth Director. The most important position left to fill is our Youth Director. We have a strong desire to involve and excite the youth of the chapter. This is an opportunity for all the Lutheran Youth to gather and fellowship. If this is something the Lord is leading you towards I would be happy to discuss the details with you.
We are gearing up for our Join Hands Day project on May 6th. Join Hands Day is a national day for all fraternal organizations to participate with a goal to bridge the generation gap between adults and youth with a project for everyone to work on together. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans gives us additional money to spend on Join Hands Day. This years' project will involve a local organization started by a high school student at Brookstone called HabiTot. Habitat for Humanity provides an opportunity for low income families to buy a home with sweat equity (they help build it) and no interest low cost loans. HabiTot gives the little kids a Little Tikes playhouse to go with their family home. We plan to assemble them as one of the churches and caravan to the homes that Habitat for Humanity chooses and present the playhouse to the family. We are planning to assemble and deliver 3 to 6 playhouses so we will need all the help and cordless screwdrivers we can muster. Some trucks to deliver them would be nice too,. We had a great time during the 2004 Join Hands Day project. Please join us this year for fun, fellowship and food. We hope to have the young man that started the program at our March Quarterly Meeting.
The March Quarterly meeting will be at St. Matthews' fellowship hall on March 26th. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will provide the drinks and the meat. Please bring some other food to share. The meal will start at 12:30 and our meeting will begin at 1:00. We will update you on the chapter activities, expand our plans for Join Hands Day and there will be door prizes.
CARE ABOUNDS in COMMUNITIES*
Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has given your chapter over $7,100 to help our community through a program called Care Abounds in Communities! We can accept and approve applications for fund raising projects and hands-on service projects. Contact one of the board leaders listed earlier with any ideas for projects.
The congregations have a similar program called Care in Congregation where each congregation received $1,300 or more for congregational Fundraiser projects and Hands On projects. Please talk to your congregational leader if you have any ideas for a project. They will guide you through the application process.
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY PARTNERSHIP
Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has partnered with Habitat for Humanity where Thrivent will fund an additional 300 homes this year and 500 homes a year for the next 3 years. There are plenty of opportunities to participate. If you support Habitat for Humanity financially you can increase your donation by donating through the Thrivent Builds Giving program where Thrivent will match $1.00 for every $2.00 donated up to a $300 Thrivent Financial supplement. Visit www.thriventbuilds.com for more details about either of these programs.
I hope to see you as we work together to improve our congregations and our community.
In Christ,
John Ninke
