2007 Care in Congregations Recap
Did you know that Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has a program called Care in Congregations® where funding is provided to Thrivent Financial members to conduct fund-raising and/or hands-on service activities to benefit your congregation or its related Lutheran institutions?

From Boston butts to yardsales, this year our members have worked hard to raise funds for their churches and church members!  Pizza coupon sales, German meals, and church dinners were just a few of the activities that helped our youth groups get to National Gatherings, furnished our conference rooms and offices, and bought kitchen appliances.  In 2007 our chapter was able to contribute $3,900 to these causes, which brought the total raised to $11,844 -- a truly amazing amount!  Thanks to all our volunteers who helped with Care in Congregations this year!

If you see a need in your congregation that could be helped through this funding, please contact a Thrivent Financial congregational coordinator in your congregation. If you don't know who your three congregational coordinators are, please contact a member of our chapter leadership board and he or she will help you get in touch with a coordinator.

Care Abounds in Communities, 2007
An unbelievable $23,262 was raised for both large organizations — like the Special Olympics, Habitat for Humanity, Boy Scouts, and Relay for Life — and small groups like Sister Judy's Kids (for pediatric AIDS patients), Noah's Ark (a halfway house), and House of Mercy.  Thrivent supplemented $7,565 towards activities like emergency financial assistance and Thanksgiving dinners for lonely Ft. Benning basic trainees, and for the fundraising efforts, such as popcorn and pie sales, block parties, dinners, bowling tournaments, and auctions.  These activities are so time-consuming and detail-oriented — thanks to all who participated!

Through Care Abounds in Communities®, anyone in our chapter can organize a community service team and help others. It doesn't take a lot of time or a long-term commitment! Contact a member of our chapter leadership board as noted in this newsletter for assistance in getting started.

And you can show you care for your community through Care Abounds in Communities®. Through this program, Thrivent Financial provides funding to support members like you who want to make a difference. Accessing supplemental funds for fundraising efforts or funds to purchase supplies for hands-on service activities is easy through our chapter leadership board. Your first step is to form a community service team — a team of volunteers that conducts an activity to help individuals, families and/or qualified not-for-profit organizations. Then you can contact our chapter leadership board for more information and help.
