Cape Fear River Chapter, APRIL 2007 HIGHLIGHTS
REIGELWOOD UPDATE

The tornado that tore through Reigelwood left most of the people with everything gone that were affected. The churches in our Chapter received funds from their members to support the community. With the supplemental funds from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, the Cape Fear River Chapter sent to Reigelwood $16,337. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this effort. They will be rebuilding their lives for some time to come.

PLANNED EVENTS OF CHAPTER CHURCHES
JOIN HANDS DAY = APRIL 28 & MAY 5 = 1 TO 3 PM EACH DAY
Adults and youth will work to create a memorial garden at Hospice Care Center, 1406 Physicians Dr. Wilmington, NC. It is near the New Hanover hospital. Many hands will get this project done beautifully.

Lutheran Church of the Reconciliation has collected food and other items to send to the military.

Saint Peter had women to bake Irish Soda Bread which was sold in the congegation. The proceeds and supplemental funds will be given to the local Food Pantry.

Kure Memorial is raising funds for the Pleasure Island Food Pantry.

NEW MEMBERS IN THE CHAPTER
When you moved into this area and are a Thrivent Financial for Lutheran holder, you were assigned to the Cape Fear River Chapter. With that you became a new member of the chapter.  The one issue, however, is that many join Lutheran Churches here, but they don't notify Appleton which church they become members of. The chapter would like you to notify Appleton.

You need to give them your full name, address, customer information file number along with the name and address of the church you joined. You can send a letter to that effect or get a form from your congregational coordinators. You need to include the name of each person in your household to whom this applies.

Send to: Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Relationship Information, 4321 N. Ballard Road, Appleton, WI 54919-0001

By doing this, the congregational coordinator will know you are a Thrivent owner and you will be able to participate on Thrivent projects and vote in the election for chapter leaders. The chaper board urges each person to let their Lutheran Church coordinators know they are a Thrivent member.

There are Thrivent Financial for Lutherans who do not belong to a Lutheran Church. They belong to another denomiation perhaps. These people are welcome to particpate in any events that the chapter sponsors. We welcome all particpation from any Thrivent Financial member.

Care Abounds In Communities®
Funds available to help others through volunteer service

If you like working with others and have a desire to reach out to those in need, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans can help. Funding is available for members to purchase materials for hands-on service activities benefiting individuals, families or communities.

So, if you are handy with a hammer, love landscaping, notice that sewing or knitting makes you smile, or you have another talent to share with others, why not partner with other Thrivent Financial members to make an impact in your community?

For example, a wheelchair ramp is so much more than wood and nails. For a wheelchair user, a ramp represents accessibility to life outside the house — to community, friends and family — and even to living independently.

Building a wheelchair ramp is only one example of the impact a little teamwork can have on someone's life. Can you think of other needs in your community and other ways you might be able to make an impact? Call your chapter leadership board for more information.
