Cape Fear River Chapter, PROGRAM FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES
Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has two programs to help your church and community financially. To participate in them you need to work with your Thrivent congregational coordinators. If you know of a need in your church or someone who needs help let them know and get the ball rolling. At this time some churches have not acted on this yet.
Care in Congregations funds awaiting
This is the program for your congregation to provide for needs at your church. Each church can receive $1300 or $1600, depending on size, from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, but you need to provide some effort to get it. At least six Thrivent members from different households get involved in the event with the planning and working. You hold a hands-on service event or fund raiser for each different need. Do you need a new computer, new kitchen equipment, new hymnals, etc. not planned for in the church budget? Some churches have not acted on this money availability and the year is waning. Your Thrivent coordinators have all the information necessary. Talk to them. They will request the funds directly from Thrivent in an online process. The coordinators are the key people in this process for each church. Your support is also important for success.
Who are your coordinators? Check out this list.
Christ The King/Whiteville: Sarah Garner, Connie Ghent, Tiffaney Flack Kure Memorial/Kure Beach: Dot Herman, Todd Vought, Donnie Rehder Lutheran Church of Reconciliation/Wilm: Laura Frank, Barb Knudsen, Joan Fracalossi Messiah/Wilm: Phyllis Weybrecht, Thomas Hardy, Alfred Birnstein St Luke/Ocean Isle Beach: Chris Hawkins, Connie Regan, Shay West St Matthews/Wilm: Barb Christmas, Dick Walter, Nancy Magruder St Paul/Wilm: Gary Marinko, Dan Dresher St Peter/Southport: Pat Trizinsky, Sandra Schultz, Nancy Mazzei Water of Life/Wilm: Kennie Warren, Brenda Campbell, Leah Powell
Care Abounds in Communities helps others
This is another program that can benefit individuals, families, or not-for-profit organizations other than the church. Requests for funds are brought by your coordinators to the chapter board at the chapter board meetings. There are maximums that the chapter can give to any one fund-raising activity. We request a 3 to 1 ratio of your request first before the chapter can add the requested amount or equivalent. The minimum is $100. Raise the 3 to 1 funds requested and get the supplemental amount. Your Cape Fear River Chapter still has funds for this program. They are waiting for your requests of need. If you don’t ask, you don’t get. Help is a phone call away.

CREATE A SERVICE TEAM TO START
A congregational service team includes all Thrivent Financial for Lutherans members who want to come together to help a particular congregation. Teams help by conducting fund-raising activities (including appeals/collections) and/or hands-on service activities such as painting the church or building cabinetry for the fellowship hall. The congregational service team must have three Thrivent Financial for Lutherans members from separate households registered as congregational coordinators. Participating congregational service team members may differ from one activity to the next, and participants do not need to be members of the congregation benefiting from the activity. (If the six-member-household requirement is met, nonmembers may and are encouraged to participate in the activity.)
An online tool located at www.thrivent.com/ABC—is available to help you translate your desire to help into an action plan for making a difference. It provides easy steps to guide you as well as ideas, checklists and tips so you can successfully execute a community service team activity through your Thrivent Financial for Lutherans chapter.
