Cape Fear River Chapter, 2007 ELECTIONS

We thank all those who voted in the Chapter election. There were 183 ballots cast. These are your 2008 officers.

President: Howard Batts is a former AAL representative who served this part of North Carolina. He is a member of Lutheran Church of Reconciliation in Wilmington. The President oversees all chapter affairs.

Vice President: Rev. Dan Warnes is the pastor of Lutheran Church of Reconciliation in Wilmington. The Vice President assists the President with chapter affairs, and conducts annual elections of officers.

Financial Director: Twylla Ford is a member of Saint Peter Lutheran Church in Southport. Twylla manages the monies acquired and distributed by the chapter.

Records Director: Jim Little is a member of Lutheran Church of Reconciliation in Wilmington. Jim maintains all chapter files and reports.

Congregational Service Team Director: Barbara Vought and her husband, Todd, have served the Cape Fear chapter through a variety of offices. She is a member of Kure Memorial Lutheran Church in Kure Beach. Barbara encourages and supports Thrivent projects within the local congregations.

Communications Director: Lois Beddard a member of Saint Peter Lutheran Church in Southport. The Communications Director produces chapter newsletters and other forms of correspondence.

Community Service Team Director: Barbara Millis is a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Wilmington. She will be working with Care in Community projects that are chapter-wide.

Youth Director: Emily Clamser is the Youth and Family Minister of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilmington. She will coordinate Thrivent activities for youth across the chapter.

CHAPTER AWARDED HOUSE

We have been awarded the opportunity to build a house with Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity in 2008. We made it through the tough application process and now we will go forward to raise the necessary funds and put together the work teams. All churches will need a Thrivent Builds Champion who will be the contact person and promoter for your congregation. The pastors will be contacted to help in this process.

When the announcement was received, this was part of the letter: “The support of your chapter and the Lutheran congregations in your area are an integral part of the success of the Thrivent Builds Homes program. We are excited to have your chapter join us in this special initiative to put an end to substandard housing, and we look forward to working with you. Together we can make a difference not just in the lives of the families we assist, but also in the lives of all those involved in this worthwhile project,” Mike Wendt, Lutheran Community Services Specialist--Thrivent Builds, Southeast Region leadership, Thrivent for Lutherans.

Our Thrivent Builds Specialist is Dan Dresher from St Paul, Wilmington. We will be hearing more from him in the months ahead. We look forward to the coming events to build a new house with Habitat for Humanity.
