Hudson Valley NY Chapter, A New Year Begins
New Chapter Leadership Board
As the New Year begins, I would like to thank the outgoing Board members for their dedication and time during the past 4 years. Sharon Wuttke who has been the solid rock to always keep me on track and on time. LeRoi Armstead who has always been the advocate and been able to help us see the faces of those we are trying to help amid all the regulations of the fraternal organization. Now the new Board will be dealing with paper and faces. Unfortunately, the Board mostly represents the northern part of the Hudson Valley Chapter. They would love more representation from East, South and West. Please feel free to contact them with your interest in the Board and what they do. Jim Steipp is our new chapter President for 2011. Jim can be contacted by phone at 845-338-4861 or by e-mail at jsteipp@hvc.rr.com
Erich Markert is our new Vice-President. Erich can be contacted phone at 845-691-1466 or by e-mail at emarkert@netscape.net
Carmen Adler is Records Director. Carmen can be contacted by phone at 845-679-5328 or by e-mail at carmen@christwoodstock.org
Robert Callahan continues as our Financial Director. Robert can be reached by phone at 845-679-1518 or by e-mail at robert.bob.callahan@gmail.com
Kemp Anderson is our Director of Congregational Advocates. You aan contact Kemp by phone at 845-338-1255 or by e-mail at kempla71@gmail.com
Jeannette Meyers continues as our Youth Director. You can reach Jeannette by phone at 845-802-0314 or by e-mail at jnielsen101@gmail.com . Imagine yourself as part of a group of caring people with the opportunity to decide how best to use funding that benefits people in need and your community. Imagine being able to increase the impact that money has through community involvement, awareness, additional funds raised and the caring work of many hands. And imagine being able to help Thrivent Financial members come together for charitable, educational and social purposes. Chapter leaders with the Hudson Valley NY Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans do just that! The only requirements are: being a Thrivent Financial member; a desire to help people; and five to 15 hours per month volunteer time (depending on the position). If serving on the chapter leadership board does not work for you but you'd like to be involved or volunteer in some capacity, there are many other volunteer opportunities, both short-term and longer-term, available as well. Please contact us and we'll describe how you can make a difference through the Thrivent chapter system in a way that fits into your schedule.
Sincerely, Stephen Färdig, outgoing President

Calling Congregational Advocates
We are looking for Congregational Advocates in the congregations of the Hudson Valley Chapter. Right now only a few congregations in our Chapter actually have Congregational Advocates. Our goal is to have at least one Advocate in each congregation. Congregational Advocates serve as liasons between their congregation and the Chapter Board and Thrivent Financial representatives. What will the congregational advocate do?
• Build relationships with congregation members, Thrivent Financial members, congregational leaders and Thrivent Financial representatives.
• Understand the needs and ministries of your congregation. Partner with your Thrivent Financial representative(s) and the director of congregational advocates to find the appropriate charitable, social and educational solutions to meet those needs and then help make them happen in your congregation.\
• Use turn-key resources and tools to educate, advocate for and promote Thrivent Financial programs, such as Thrivent ChoiceSM and Care Abounds in Communities®.
If you are interested in serving in this important position, please contact our Director of Congregational Advocates, Kemp Anderson by phone at 845-338-1255 or by e-mail at kempla71@gmail.com.
Thrivent Choice: An Easy Way to Help Support What Matters to You
The Thrivent Choice program offers two ways members can recommend where to direct a portion of Thrivent Financial's charitable outreach funds. 1. Voting Events: All members (age 16 and older) can vote to help direct a portion of Thrivent Financial's charitable funds among a short list of national charities one to two times per year.
2. Choice Dollars: Eligible benefit members can help direct funds all year long to thousands of Lutheran nonprofit organizations like schools, camps, colleges – or even to their Lutheran congregations. Benefit members age 16 or older are eligible to participate in Choice Dollars if they:
Hold a Thrivent Financial volunteer leadership position; or Have $800 or more in annual premiums of qualifying insurance products; or Have $20,000 or more in contract value of qualifying products. Member eligibility under current eligibility requirements is determined monthly, and these eligibility requirements are re-evaluated on an annual basis. Participation is simple and easy, without any complicated forms to complete. You'll be able to vote or direct Choice Dollars in a way that's convenient for you. Visit www.thrivent.com/thriventchoice or call 800-THRIVENT (800-847-4836) and say “Thrivent Choice” for more information.
