| About Zacapa
Zacapa sits in the Motagua River Valley. It is at the crossoads of two of the countries few highways, connecting the capital city with the Carribean port, Honduras, and El Salvador. A now defunt railroad built by the banana industry preceded the highway. When it was built, it was the only means of motorized transportation between these important points.
Known also as the Tierra Calinete, Hot Land, the area is semi-desert. It is usually hot and dry, except for the rainy season when it is hot and wet. Cactus are among the tallest trees. Cattle ranching, tobacco farming, and truck farming are the main local industries.
The population is 99% ladino.
