Metro DC Lutheran Campus Ministries

Five for the Future: Ministry for a New Century

Read the letter from Bishop Schneider.

A Vision for Mission of Synod Campus Ministries

  • To bring the Gospel to future leaders of community, church and world
  • To provide community and support for students and faculty
  • To bring the richness of experience on our synod campuses to individual congregations

Goals of the 5 for the Future Campaign

  1. Engage congregations, individuals and other organizations in campus ministry through information exchange, mutual ministry support, shared resources, and other participation.
  2. Identify financial resources for synod campus ministry in DC and MD to continue and expand existing programs, and start new ministry in Northern Virginia, for 2002 2004.
  3. Identify new funding partners for ongoing support of the Howard University and Northern Virginia ministries.

The numbers:

The following table is intended to give an idea of the needs of the ministry in the the next 2 or 3 years. Included are the budgeted needs of the existing ministries (HU, GU, AU, U of Md) at current levels of ministry, outside of currently budgeted fixed income.

2002 - 2003
Salary:  $67,000
Non-salary (Operations, Program, Peer ministers):  $14,000

2002 - 2004
Salary:  $109,000
Non-salary (Operations, Program, Peer ministers):  $21,000

Additional funds are needed for expansion of ministry in Northern Virginia/GMU and at other campuses.

There are approximately 28,700 confirmed members in the DC synod.
