Catawba Valley Chapter, SPRING DOINGS
BUILDING ONCE AGAIN WITH HABITAT
We are fortunate to be able to build another house this spring. Groundbreaking will take place April 19, at 2:00p.m.  Our Catawba Valley Chapter Board hopes that many of you will be present at Blue Sky Court on Robinson Road near Valley Hills Mall to meet the family for which we are building this house. Please join us for this special event.
Building begins April 23. If you or your congregation have not volunteered to help, please contact Tori Pace, the Habitat Volunteer Coordinator. If we run out of days for people to work on the construction of the house, there may be some days that you could bring snack or lunch, and the working teams would not have to do that. There is a place for you to help.  Contact Tori at 828-328-4663 Ext.311 or tori@hickoryhabitat.org. The Catawba Valley Habitat website is www.hickoryhabitat.org

DONATIONS ACCEPTED AND REQUESTED
In order for our chapter to pay our part of the new house so we can dedicate it on July 25, we must raise $8,050. I have this dream that each of our 40 congregations will make a contribution this year. We had 18 congregations make monetary gifts in 2008 along with some individuals. If you, as an individual, send a contribution, please name a church that you wish to receive that credit. This will help to reach my dream- funds received from every congregation.
Let’s make this our best year ever.  Send your contributions to Denise Sellers at 134 7th Avenue Dr. NE, Hickory, NC 28601. Make checks payable to: CVC-Thrivent Builds.  The board thanks you so much for your help as we build our 2009 TBH house.

CARE ABOUNDS IN COMMUNITIES AND CARE IN CONGREGATIONS
The board encourages you to make plans to help as many people as you can using allotted funds from Thrivent.  If you want to request Care in Congregations funds, please let your 3 Congregational Coordinators know so they can help you with the request. Your congregation received $1020 or $1250(down from $1300 or $1600 in '08) for Care in Congregations.
If you wish to request funds from Care Abounds in Communities, please let one of the board members know, and we will help you complete a Request Form and vote on it at our next meeting. Our board meets the 1st Tuesday of the month in person or by teleconference, so please have your request in at least one week prior to those dates. We received $39,620 for Care Abounds in Communities this year, down from $49,600 last year.

FRATERNAL ASSOCIATES
Recently, at a training session in Charlotte, we learned that many of our Thrivent members are older, and we are not attracting younger members.  Financial Associates can present interesting programs to your congregation or to smaller groups. The Financial Associate wants you to know how we help each other. When a product is sold that means that Thrivent will be able to give more funding to our churches. If you don’t know your Fraternal Associate, please contact one of the following Financial Associates, and they will be glad to help you.  Contact them.
