In September 1997, a young woman named Diana miscarried triplets five months into her pregnancy. As she and her husband sadly prepared for their babies funeral, they discovered there was no place to purchase burial clothing small enough to properly fit the tiny infants. This bereaved mother found herself in the Toys-R-Us store shopping for clothing in which to bury her children.
Did you know that many parents whose premature babies die need to shop toy stores for burial clothing? This is often a traumatic experience for them and the clothing usually does not fit properly.
In response to this need, the Tuesday women's Bible study group of St. John Lutheran Church in Waverly, Iowa organized the "Diana's Angels Project". The purpose of the group is to sew and package garments in several sizes and styles which will fit tiny infants. Each set includes an outfit for the baby to wear, a cap, a blanket, and booties. A card is also placed in each box with Psalms 121 printed on the inside. These are donated to area hospitals where they are given to families facing these tragic losses.
Diana's Angels has received overwhelming support across the United States in addition to several other countries.
