And Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God, and took a great stone, and set it up
there under an oak, that was by the sanctuary of the LORD.
Joshua 24:26

If you only look at us, you might well miss the brightness. We carry this precious gospel around in the unadorned clay pots of our ordinary lives. That's to prevent anyone from confusing God's incomparable power with us. As it is, there's not much chance of that. You know for yourselves that we're not much to look at. We've been surrounded & battered by troubles, but we're not demoralized; we're not sure what to do, but we know that God knows what to do. (a paraphrase from 2 Corinthians)

Summer Worship Schedule:
Oak Grove Worship Committee has decided to continue Wednesday evening summer worship services. They will begin on June 12th at 7 PM. Wednesday evening worship will be more causal (than Sunday morning worship) and shorter in length, but services will involve the option of Holy Communion. More information on the sermon series to be presented on a later date. Hope you can come. Invite a friend!

Outdoor Worship coming this Summer!
On the first Sunday of June, July, and August we will meet at our outdoor sanctuary for worship (weather permitting). Worship will still begin at 9 AM and will be the same order of worship as other Sundays. Some seating will be provided but please feel free to bring chairs from home. With the different atmosphere, please invite someone you know to come and experience God in the midst of Oak Grove.

Cottage Meetings

The next Scheduled Cottage Meeting:
Date, time and place to be announced.
Cottage Meetings Coming Soon:
A fun way to connect and get to know one another

So what’s this all about, you ask?
Good question! Below you’ll find more information on the cottage meetings. Please consider signing up for one of our cottage meetings by contacting Pastor Nathaneil or signing up on the sign up sheet on the back of the sanctuary (coming soon)I would love to get to know you more and hear your joys and struggles as part of Oak Grove Lutheran Church!

What is the purpose of holding Cottage meetings?
1. Help the pastor get acquainted with the congregation
2. Help the congregation get acquainted with one another
3. Gather information to develop a sense of Oak Grove’s past, present, and future

What will happen at the cottage meeting?
1. Potluck (breakfast, lunch, dinner, supper), coffee, and/or snacks.
2. Pastor will share a brief devotion and prayer.
3. Brief introductions.
4. Questionnaire handed out.
5. Conversation. The host or another person chosen at the meeting will record answers to questions that are asked about current strengths of the congregation, current “growing edges” to work on, and greatest hopes and dreams for the church.

The idea is that these cottage meetings will be about 1-2 hour(s) long (depending on number present and the amount of food!!). The cottage meetings will be great opportunities for fellowship and community building. They will be an opportunity to hear one another and share your thoughts and feelings about Oak Grove.

Interesting in hosting a Cottage Meeting? Contact Pastor Nathaneil to set a date.

If you have any questions, contact Pastor Nathaneil at the church 724.774.6410 or his cell phone 651.328.1072.

Question?

The bell has announced worship services for over 100 years.
It was also used to announce the death of a member by pealing
the number of years a person had lived before the invention of the telephone.
Why should I go to church?
I get nothing out of it.

Answer:
1. We go to church to worship God.
2. Others are supported by your presence.
3. You might get something out of it.

As Hurricane Irene battered the East Coast, federal
disaster officials warned that Internet outages could
force people to interact with other people for the
first time in years. Residents braced themselves for
the horror of awkward silences and unwanted eye contact.
FEMA had advised: “Be prepared. Write down possible
topics to talk about in advance. Sports...the weather.
Remember, a conversation is basically a series of
Facebook updates strung together.

A man was standing near a large tree
when the tree was struck by lightning.
The bolt just missed the man.
A passer by commented to the man,

missed you."

Harry came home from Sunday school and asked his mother,
“Do people really come from dust?” “In a way said,” said
his mother. “And do they go back to dust?” “Yes, in a way.”
She replied. “Well, mother, I looked under my bed, and
somebody’s either coming or going.”

WHY WHY WHY
Why do supermarkets make the sick walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front?
Why do people order double cheeseburgers, large fries, and a diet coke?
Why do banks leave vault doors open and then chain the pens to the counters?
Why do we leave cars worth thousands of dollars in our driveways and put our useless junk in the garage?
EVER WONDER...
Why the sun lightens our hair, but darkens our skin?
Why can't women put on mascara with their mouth closed?
Why don't you ever see the headline 'Psychic Wins Lottery'?
Why is 'abbreviated' such a long word?
Why is it that doctors and attorneys call what they do 'practice'?
Why is lemon juice made with artificial flavoring, and dish washing liquid made with real lemons?
Why is the man who invests all your money called a broker?
Why is the time of day with the slowest traffic called rush hour?
Why isn't there mouse-flavored cat food?
Why didn't Noah swat those two mosquitoes?
Why do they sterilize the needle for lethal injections?
You know that indestructible black box that is used on airplanes?
Why don't they make the whole plane out of that stuff??
Why don't sheep shrink when it rains?
Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together?
If flying is so safe, why do they call the airport the terminal?
