COMMUNITY LIFE TEAM

Community Life gathers to empower service through education and outreach ministries of this community and the world through Cross of Christ Lutheran Church.  This team seeks volunteers in many areas to help organize, publicize, and share the word of Christ as mandated in the greatest command:  "To love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, and soul and to love our neighbors as ourselves."

BENEVOLENCE PROJECTS AND VISION: To empower the congregation by the power of the Spirit to make a difference in the lives of brothers and sisters throughout this world through education, service, and leadership through the raising of funds and awareness for needs such as world hunger, American Red Cross, and camp ministries.

EVANGELISM: This team seeks volunteers who will organize and empower the congregation to reach beyond our congregation and invite those who continue to seek a place of peace and hope as we share the story of Christ.  Projects such as welcome mugs, the Blanket Ministries, and World Hunger Luncheon are just a few possibilities.

VISION: To organize outreach programs in the community to reach both churched and unchurched members of our community and to share the love of God with them.

PRAYER BLANKET MINISTRY: Once a month this group invites all who would like to share in prayer of the people, world, and community to gather at the church.  During prayer time prayer blankets are created through crocheting, knitting, and by tying fleece.  A prayer is sewn onto each blanket.  The blankets are then delivered by a member of the group or by an individual in the congregation and the prayer is said with the recipient.

VISION: That those who are sick experience the hope of the community of faith in their sickness or need and are empowered to share the love of Christ with others

SCHOOL KIT MINISTRY: Each year school kits are made to send to Lutheran World Relief to be distributed to students around the world who are in need...including right here in Michigan.  This ministry opens our eyes to the work of Christ in this world as we reach beyond ourselves into God's world.

VISION: To empower those who need supplies to learn and to grow in the hope and faith that comes from building relationships around the world by serving.

THANKSGIVING BAG MINISTRY: This ministry provides bags of canned food to those who live on the streets and shelters in our community.  These bags are delivered directly to the people at Thanksgiving time.

VISION: To bring awareness to the congregation of the abundance that we have that can be shared with those in need as we share our faith by serving

THURSDAY FREE LUNCH PROGRAM: Providing a free meal once a week for those in need provides Cross of Christ an outlet for sharing the Gospel and serving our neighbors.

VISION:  To share in the love of Christ by serving those in need and working together ecumenically in our community for peace and equity.

MISSION: To serve members of the community in need of a well balanced lunch at First Presbyterian Church of Petoskey in conjunction with Emmanual Episcopal Church on an every other month schedule

PUBLICITY: This team seeks volunteers to coordinate the details and ministry needs of publicity of Cross of Christ and the church's ministry in the community and world.

VISION: To secure free publicity, when possible, for events taking place at church, and to buy necessary ads in the phone book, summer church directory, Vacation Bible School summer advertising, etc. to share in the celebration of Christ at Cross of Christ
