From the October 2009 Newsletter
Greetings to you all! What a beautiful month!
The sanctuary has been adorned with the fruits
of the earth, and the fall colors are gorgeous.
We are very blessed to be here and now in
God’s kingdom to celebrate all that is new and
fresh and to cherish all that has come to us in
the past.
This year for our stewardship focus we are
asked to take an inventory of our lives. Are we
making decisions that build up the body of
Christ? Are we empowering one another to
share the Gospel of Jesus Christ? How are we
spending our first fruits? What gifts have we
been given by the Holy Spirit that we have yet to
tap into? And keep it simple! What is your impact
on our environment? Can we simplify?
What about spending habits? Or, what about
your commitment to Christian Education? Now
is the time take that inventory and to rearrange
in order to set priorities. I have to do this often
because I get busy with other “stuff” and lose
sight on how I had set my priorities. Review, refocus,
and commit. This doesn’t mean that as
we grow in Christ that we are not called into new
leadership and servant roles, or that we are able
to change financial commitments as we are
called. But it does mean that we are focusing on
our call to stand in solidarity with those who are
suffering, and serving one another as we have
been served.
One of the blessings of being called as a family
in Christ is that we are always working through
the ups and downs of what it means to be a broken
human being together, an actual family!
And when we recognize that we are all sinners
redeemed by our Lord and Savior through the
blood of the Lamb, we are set free again to simplify
our lives…serve and be served, love and be
loved, to be good stewards. This requires no
judging. Our response to God’s grace is a celebration
of time talents and treasures that we are
returning to God to use to further the Gospel
message! What a blessing and what a gift we
have been given.
So let us get busy with the business of God! Go
tell it on the mountain! And live life celebrating
what we have been given! We are servants of
the Lord accountable to the Lord and to the family
of Christ. Let us go forth boldly to live a simpler
life with a heavy message of relationship
and reconciliation with our Lord and Savior!
“Proclaim with me the greatness of the Lord; let
us exalt God’s name together.” Psalm 34.3
