enrolling at the University of Wisconsin--Milwaukee in January 1955. He graduated
in 1960 in Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, WI.27
from the University of Wisconsin--Milwaukee with a BSME degree. He then worked
for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Engine Company in Connecticut as an Experimental
Test Engineer on jet engine fuel systems. Between Jan 1967 and Jul 1993 he was
a pilot and flight instructor for Northwest Airlines.27 After he retired, his hobbies included the building
of small aircraft and the restoration of classic automobiles. He has homes in

Obituary Notes: "Uiko Vandervort, age 50, passed away in her home in Bainbridge
Island on June 8, 1994. She was born in Tokyo, Japan, June 28, 1943.
As an airline stewardess she met, then married, Ronald Vandervort of Hastings,
MN on July 17, 1969. She was a 'Dean's List' student while attending Inver Hills
College in MN. They moved to Bainbridge Island in 1986. Uiko was active in
Helpline, Nisei Guild for Children's Hospital, and the Y-Me Breast Cancer Support
Group. More recently, she operated, jointly, a jewelry handcraft business with
Masako Guidry here on the island. Uiko enjoyed gardening and travel to different
cultures. She brought delightful enthusiasm with her to every involvement.
Survivors include Ronald, her husband of 25 years; two sisters, Michiko (Fumio)
Fujimura, and Shikiko Horiuchi of Tokyo, Japan; one niece, Mari Fujimura; one
nephew, Go Fujimura; her mother-in-law, Thelma Vandervort of Brookfield, WI;
along with numerous other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by
her parents, Ryutaro and Tomako Horiuchi of Tokyo, Japan."
