He is also involved in cub scouts, the youth art program at the University of South Carolina, local theater groups, and in the advanced mathematics program at his school. In June 2001, he received the award for Best Creative Writer for his 3rd grade class at Rosewood Elementary School and the Best Reader award in his Language Arts class. In May 2003 he graduated from Rosewood Elementary School, and he began to attend Hand Middle School in August.
