St. Peter's Lutheran Church and Zion Church Timeline

1844- Rev. W Swartz of Ruth organizes the Lutherans in Port Crescent

1873- The German Evangelical Lutheran St. Peters Church of Port Crescent is organized. Services are held in private homes
1882- Rev. Theodore Schoech of Port Hope succeeds Rev. W. Swartz

1884- All Saints Episcopalian Church built at a cost of $900 1890- Rev. E Berner of Port Hope succeeds Rev. Theodore Schoech

1893- All Saints Episcopalian Church bought by St. Peter’s
Port Crescent Church

1893- A group that had been holding services with Rev. Berner decides to have a church of their own, so they establish the Evangelical Lutheran Zion Congregation of Town Bloomfield under Rev. Berner
1901- Mr. Albert Iseler donates an acre of land to Zion Church
Zion Church

1907- $130 was offered, with land, from businessmen of Kinde for St. Peter’s to relocate. The church was then lifted and dragged down to Kinde, probably in the winter. When it was settled, a block veneer was added. Also, Mr. William Schnufhase built an alter, which is still used today

1910- St. Peter’s Ladies Aid is established
1911- St. Peter’s and Zion decide to build a parsonage and Rev. Berner leaves and is replaced by M. L. Luecke from Cadillac

1914- St. Peter’s decided to have German Services one week, English the next. Zion organizes Ladies Aid.
1918- Zion Ladies Aid dissolved. Rev. M. L. Luecke won a car from by selling subscriptions to Port Huron Times Herald
1919- New Zion Ladies Aid organized
1921- St. Peter’s decides to have 2 English Services and 1 German
1938- Discontinued German Services
1939- Rev. M. L. Luecke retires; Rev. W. A. Rook takes his place

1942- Our men in service include- Bernard Stiebe, Lester Clark, George Musolff, Carl Selby, Harold Schuman, Herbert Pawlitz, Wesley Nut, Alfred Pfliger, Malvern Clark, Carl Reithal, Deward Reimann, Walter Ulrich, John E. Jurgess
1943- Rev. Edwin Roehrs succeeds Rev. W. A. Rook

1944- St. Peter’s leaves the word German out of name
1945- St. Peter’s buys Methodist church and turns it into a hall, as printed in Bay City Times
1950- St. Peter’s and Zion join, Rev. Harold Krueger takes place of Rev. Edwin Roehrs

1952- Zion church reverts to Edward Hass farm
1953- Rev. Gottfried G. Press of West Branch, succeeds Rev. Harold Krueger

1956- Installation of Rev. Raymond Staudacker, of Crookston, Nebraska

1964- Served by several vacancy pastors, including Otto Fedcke of Saginaw
1966- Vote to build new parsonage after arrival of new pastor, Vicar Emil Zmijewski serves one year

1977- Rev. Carl Wuerffel is installed, with his wife Thelma and children

1978- Re. Carl Wuerffel dies, wife allowed to stay until new pastor arrives
1979- Rev. John Beck installed, comes with wife, Judy, and sons

1983- Rev. Beck leaves, Pastor Corl does the vacancy
1984- Rev. Mark Elliot installed, comes with wife, Susan, and children
