The Lord is my Shepherd, but...
What is the most exciting thing in this wide universe? Space travel? Developing as a person? The love between a man and a woman? These are fascinating, but the most exciting thing of all, Barbara Jurgensen says, is God. Yet too often we think of God as dull and dreary. Then we miss all the wonder and excitement of knowing God and following him - perhaps because the Christians around us do not give us an adequate or true picture of what it means to follow Christ.
These confessions range over many subjects - from automation, race relations and war to computers and interplanetary exploration.
Here is a provocative, probing, in-depth insight into the meaning of life and what it means to be a follower of Christ. |

Someday We've Got to Get Organized...Experiences of a Labor Organizer by Sylvan Hubrig as told to Barbara Jurgensen
Here is a powerful book containing high drama, humor and memorable events in the career of a labor organizer in rural America. In Someday We've Got To Get Organized, Sylvan Hubrig describes the harassment which he was subjected to in his early years of union activity in Minot, North Dakota. The zesty flavor of his story is adroitly captured and written by Barbara Jurgensen.
The state legislature had passed a law barring convicted felons from representing unions. The author relates his arrest on what he contends was a trumped-up speeding charge contrived by city officials to disqualify him for further union activity. At the trial, a police captain admitted he had been ordered to arrest Mr. Hubrig whenever he could - under any pretext. The author was speedily acquitted and, when the city appealed to the State Supreme Court, he was exonerated there, also.
But the harassing tactics of the local business community and city officials did not end. His automobile insurance was suddenly canceled and he was unable to obtain another policy. He was finally forced to buy a high-risk policy.
See what happens next as Mr. Hubrig works to find a collaboration by labor and business in the most unlikely of times. |
