THIS MONTH'S MESSAGE FROM PASTOR MIKE
Dear Friends in Christ,
“And this will be a sign for you: You will find a babe wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory
to God in the highest”(Luke 2:12-14)
Christmas blessings to you and your house!
One of the things about the Christmas story that is striking to me is that the conditions of the baby Jesus’
birth seem so harsh and un-hospitable. In my mind’s eye the place of this birth is a very cold place. The
conditions are far less than “ideal”. The birth comes to two very young “kids”, who really have no idea of
the journey they are about to take.
In my mind’s eye, sketchy characters come to see this thing that has taken place, and surprisingly they end up in a barn looking down into an animal feed trough. It should have been a much grander sort of beginning! For elsewhere in that world, there were warm places, warm food and soft blankets being enjoyed. But not here! This is one of the striking things about this story… another is closely related…that this is how the creator of the universe chose to enter into this world, and God’s own creation.
Out of love for us and all of creation God came. And in this coming, we have light and life ushered into the cold places of our life. The result for the sketchy characters, the angel and “multitude of the heavenly host” was that they praised God saying “Glory to God in the highest”. We too get our chance to add our voice to the chorus. Join us for worship.
