Welcome to Pastor Jim Bezaire 4/19/2015|
|On Sunday, February 8, Zion extended a call to Reverend James Bezaire of Wellborn, FL. He accepted on February 13, 2015. Revered Bezaire will start on Sunday, April 19, 2015.
Reverend Bezaire is 65 years old and was a Catholic priest prior to becoming a Lutheran minister in 1987. Since 1987 he was a full-time pastor at several churches. He has been an interim pastor at several churches for the past five years.
Reverend Bezaire was also a member of a committee that evaluates graduates of theological seminaries and approves them as ministerial candidates. Reverend Bezaire was highly recommended by all of his previous congregations.
Bishop Robert Schaefer will formally install Reverend Bezaire as pastor on Saturday, May 16 at 2:00 p.m. at Zion. Following the installation service, there will be a potluck. More details will follow.
Please welcome Reverend Bezaire to our church family.
Pot Luck to Honor Pastor Stoyer 4/12/2015|
|Pastor Stoyer will be retiring (again!), and his last day serving Zion Lutheran Church will be Sunday April 12, 2015. We thank him for coming out of retirement to serve as interim pastor for the past several years.
We are having a pot luck dinner in his honor after church on Sunday April 12, 2015. All are welcome.
As part of our efforts to become a Green Congregation, we are asking members to bring their own dishes from home to use during the pot luck. Cutlery will be provided. Paper plates will be available for guests.
Lenten Season 2015|
|Lent begins February 18. That will start our traditional "Soup &..." at noon.

Noon Wednesday Feb 18 will also have Holy Communion at our "Soup &...". That evening there will also be a Worship Service at 7:00 pm for those unable to make it at lunch. As at the noon gathering there will be Imposition of Ashes and Holy Communion.
"Soup and ...." will be at noon each Wednesday during Lent:
March 4. 11, 18 and 25.
PALM SUNDAY is March 29th
EASTER is April 5th
Please join us as often as you can. We always have room for one more.
We had a wonderful Christmas season.

Float in 2014 Groveland Christmas Parade|
Our float in the 2014 Parade
Zion Lutheran entered the 23rd annual Groveland Christmas Parade which took place on Saturday December 13. The banner "God Bless Us, Every One" proceeded the folks walking and on the float. The centerpiece of the float was a pipe organ constructed by two members of the congregation. We were very excited to be awarded second place.
After the parade, the church hosted the Gray Middle School choir as part of the Groveland Christmas Stroll.
About half of our church membership participated in one of these events. Join us next year for one of these activities.
Zion Celebrates 95 years in Groveland|
Zion's Ninety-Fifth Anniversary is coming up on May 18, 2014. There will be a church service at 11 AM and the guest preacher will be our present Bishop of the Florida/Bahamas Synod, the Reverend Robert G Schaefer.
During its 95 years Zion helped establish Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Leesburg, Frist Lutheran in Clermont, now called Shepherd of the Hills, and St. Philip Lutheran Church in Mt. Dora. Camp Emanuel, also know as the "Bible Camp" was founded by this active church. Some of the original buildings are still standing on Bible Camp Road in Groveland. Members of this church were also active in the formationof The Florida Lutheran Retirement Center in Deland, Florida.
Easter at Zion 2014|
Three Crosses at Zion. Each with a different meaning, but all meaning the same.
During the Good Friday Sermon, worshipers drive nails into the wood cross, now seen behind the pulpit to remind us of how Christ suffered and died for us. On the left is the flower cross decorated on Easter Sunday with fresh flowers. HE IS RISEN! HE IS RISEN INDEED! is heard throughout the church.
The center cross was made by one of our members. He makes small crosses that are given to each first time visitor.
