Pastor Vertein is an alumnus of Martin Luther Preparatory School (Prairie du Chien), which was amalgamated into this campus in Watertown. He hopes that his own children will continue their Lutheran education at this campus.
Luther Preparatory School is a college preparatory school owned and operated by the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod. It offers a challenging college preparatory curriculum on the secondary level to students who are considering the full time pastoral or teaching ministry as their life’s work. While Luther Preparatory School opened in its current form in the fall of 1995, it is in many ways a very old school with rich traditions and deep roots. Luther Prep is the result of a merger of Northwestern Preparatory School of Watertown, Wisconsin, and Martin Luther Preparatory School of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. Northwestern Prep was established as a department of Northwestern College in 1865 and was given its own independent identity in 1974. Martin Luther Preparatory School was established in 1979 when Martin Luther Academy was moved from its original home on the campus of Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota, and when Northwestern Lutheran Academy in Mobridge, South Dakota, was closed. Luther Preparatory School is the successor school to those prep schools which have preceded it and can readily claim the heritage and history of these schools as its own. LPS can trace its history to 1865, making it both the oldest and one of the newest Lutheran high schools in the country.
