In Cuba a team of adults will help members of Lutheran Church of Santiago de Cuba expand their present church facilities. The church building is actually the pastor's home, which he has provided as a worship center. The trip is limited to twenty participants. In the southern most city of Brazil, Rio Grande, high school participants will work with two mission congregations of the Igreja Luterana do Brasil. Along with pastors they will minister to some of the area's poorest residents.
Repairing a community center for a unique cultural group is the project in Guatemala>. What once was a vibrant gathering place for the Garífuna people group in Puerto Barrios, Guatemala, has fallen into ruin and virtually abandoned. Cristo el Salvador Lutheran Church and Lutheran Bible Translators wants to see the building again filled with people instead of rubbish and weeds.
CAN-DO has a long history of working in Mexico through work projects, helping lead Vacation Bible Schools, and evangelism. In 2004, jr. high youth will be building homes for church members in Rio Bravo, Mexico. In Matamoras CAN-DO teams will be participating in "Tent Ministries", which is evangelistic outreach through VBS and tent ministries at various locations.
Other sites in Mexico include Guasave, Monterrey, Saltillo, and San Luis Roi Colorado.
