Lutheran Community Center awaits needed repairs3 Oct 03
(3 Oct 03) Once a buzzing center of ministry activity among the Garífuna people in Puerto Barrios, Guatemala, the Lutheran Community Center now sits in disrepair in a field of weeds. Improvement of El Centro Comunitario Luterano Facilities: To make it possible to increase the number of people reached so that they may know the Word of God. First used for ministry in the 1980's, the cinderblock building had fallen into desperate disrepair, lacking doors, windows, a roof, and running water.	The Lutheran Community Center was once an active part of the Garífuna community.
Repairs were jumpstarted in 2002 with help from a stateside LWML group. Last year, the partially restored El Centro was used Saturdays for literacy class and Bible Story time. Currently Bible Story time occurs once a month. The hope is to completely restore the center so that it can once again be a gathering place for ministry, literacy classes, educational workshops, and fellowship.
